He absolutely is, just a legitimate prospect we would normally overlook.

I honestly think they pulled the trigger because it was late in the draft and they hadn't taken one yet. He was simply the best guy left at the position.

They've strayed from their prototypes before. Hell, Jourdan Lewis is still on the team.

I kind of hope he fails there in a big way.
I do too. I missed where we were all supposed to be Deion fans. For most of my life he was the unbelievably talented but selfish player who didn't like to practice and went over the coach's head to the owner. I guess when he took the JSU job in the summer of 2020 we became almost required to root for him.

Imagine if this defense ends up being elite at stopping the run, how many more opportunities to get after the passer on third and long they'll have. This defense will be significantly better than last year which was already VERY GOOD.
I could see it being one of those once a decade type defenses.

That is a staple of any sustainable good defense, even in this age of "the pass". You still can't have a bunch of ninnies out there who can't handle it when an offense decides to play big boy football.

We did not have that mindset from many of our defenders.

Except for Gallimore and Armstrong. The rest were playing their butts off for the most part unless they were being lazy.

Correct. You have to have the right mindset, as well as the talent to stop both the run and pass. When Hankins missed time last year, the run defense fell apart, and that also hurt the pass rush, and he's just a decent player. Whereas a guy like Mazi, being just as stout against the run, but much more athletic, has potential - key word "potential" - to be a dominant force inside. Now against a run-dominant team like Philly or San Francisco, what do you want to bet Mazi and Hankins get used side-by-side around 30-40% of the snaps?

Eager to see that alignment. Eagle Scrum Fuck.

Like you can't add bulk in the team lifting program?

Probably just thinks Austin is more hip and would rather live there.

So this means they might view Williams or Overshown as playing the hybrid role. I think we are going to expose him to a lot more physical punishment. And judging how he looked exhausted for the last quarter of the season, I am not sure this is all that wise.

So 252 now and will not ever surpass 255 as a player? I'll take that bet.

Not that going over 255 is necessarily a bad or wrong thing. Just saying, he's 23 years old and that's only three pounds.
