That is exactly what I hire for. Yeah, it's physical and fast paced, but with the hourly rates, OT bonuses, attendance bonuses, OMGIFYOUSHOWUPFORWORKIWILLSUCKYOUOFF bonus, we have hourly associates making more than area managers.

Maybe people are blaming their not wanting to work on Covid, ie, we are scared to leave the house and go out in public where we can be infected. Presumably even a small percentage of people who exit the workforce could lead to labor shortages. I could at least understand there is rationality behind that thought process.

But still, how are those people paying their rent? I assume people in service industries mostly aren't there to earn disposable income and play money. They are there for their necessaries, rent, food, car payment, etc.

Absolutely could be. I'm guessing this was the case with a lot of these people who couldn't be evicted legally. Don't pay rent or utilities and get food stamps and suddenly it's not hard to survive for awhile.

The eviction moratorium is ending. I understand the free ride while they couldn't be evicted; now they can be. So people should now be returning to work, not now leaving work.

I'm assuming they will be going back to work now. As stimulus end and people can be evicted they will have no choice. I hope so at least.

I do bankruptcy for a living so I feel like if anyone knew about them it would be me (or my firm). My boss has testified in front of Congress. He knows Senators. I don't think there is any kind of money give-away being hidden.

But I'm at a loss for how people are keeping afloat right now.

These people lived rent free for a year and a half, were on unemployment(I assume), got stimulus payments probably totaling anywhere from $5k-$20k, now the government will save them again because they spent it all on McDonalds, rims, and big screen TVs?

That was the one biggest thing that Trump fucked up. The CARES act. It started all of this nonsense and then left it up to the states (which should have happened) as to how it was used. That Act should never have passed in that form.

Shops in my town in NC are closing up left and right due to lack of labor.

A tavern I loved downtown had to close its doors temporarily. Not enough employees to run it. Then the ice cream shop on the corner closed. No labor there either (plus citing "covid concerns.").

Do people not need money? Housing prices are soaring. Inflation is making all costs rise. The stimulus checks are in the rearview mirrow. The fed is handing out $300 checks per kid, but that doesn't pay a rent bill for the vast majority of families. Where is the economic collapse? Where is the money coming from? Can I have some?

They banked a lot in the last year. Most of these people also get public assistance. Probably free cell and/or internet.

They have a certain income level that they can tolerate.

So many don't want to work if they can help it.

And no, you cannot have any of the money.

I'm not trying to pat myself on the back cause I'm a relatively low man on the totem pole but I probably work at one of the biggest bankruptcy firms in the country, at least that is a real firm with real attorneys that meet with clients in-state and is not one of those paper pusher bankruptcy mills that skirts the ethics rules.

We had to have pay cuts for a while there but we are hanging tight, anticipating a tidal wave at some point.

I have a daughter that I am going to have to file power of attorney/legal rights paperwork on and I had just as not pay the $6k they are asking to file the paperwork. I need this for her well-being. I don't really, no. I think it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. We have a standard one we hand out to clients sometimes so they can have a family member assist with their case, it just has to mention bankruptcy and the things related to it, and our judges accept it.

But for a different area of law it may be way different.
