Personally I think Collins wanted nothing to do with going back to guard and that's part of why he is being cut. That whole hip injury was weird and I feel like we will never get the story on what actually happened. I'm ok not having Collins on my team but what I'm not ok with is just outright cutting a dude who is clearly in demand and going to get more on the free agent market than it would have cost in a trade.
I doubt it. It is exactly as it appears. He fell out of favor and like Amari, they didn't want to pay him anymore.

Yeah but Collins has always had this lazy tag going back to his LSU days. His loss of favor at least makes sense to me. Why the hell Amari got it I have no fucking idea. Not lazy, excellent player and besides the vaccine bullshit I don't think he has ever done anything I can point to that the team doesn't like. And frankly the vaccine shit is over with so why trade him for shit over that?

If you point to one thing this offseason that I think kills us next year it's probably the Cooper trade. Everything else I can stomach and deal with and possibly understand. The Cooper thing just made zero sense. I think we can live without Gregory. Same with Collins. Same with Wilson and so on. But I'm not sure Dak and this offense can live without Cooper.

If it this is true that Lamb, Gallup, Schultz, and Turner are not enough, then our protection or our QB or both have foundational problems.

And if it is really true, then we probably draft a WR in round 1 or 2

Well multiple problems with that. Gallup has a torn ACL and might not even be ready for the start of the season. Which tells me it's going to be awhile after that before he is his normal self. Schultz isn't a weapon. He is a guy who can find a soft zone but pretending like he is anything more than that in my opinion is silly. And Turner? The dude is a scrap heap guy who has never been anything in the NFL.

So yeah, right now it's Lamb and a bunch of meh or worse. I don't put that on the feet of Dak. I actually think Dak is a very good QB but dude isn't a miracle worker. We probably need to sign a guy and draft a guy high. And I kind of hope it's Will Fuller just to fuck with Iamtdg.

Agreed.

What made us unique on offense and among the best in the league was how many quality weapons we had.

We are now a run of the mill decent offense as far as talent. Cooper made a huge difference.

Wrt our protection, we've cut our starter thereby eliminating the depth we needed last year and apparently are counting on the other Connor who didn't exactly wow anyone in his debut series of games.

And yes, it would seem that we have cut our way into drafting for need.

Apparently, the foundational problems did not include Kellen.

I'm starting to think Jerry is going to start offering Big Mike some money to tank games. This team is doing nothing to get better from one and done.

We aren't special anywhere on offense without him. RB? Nope, WR? Nope, QB? Nope, Oline? Nope

So now we better figure something out. Maybe we can get a stud LG at 24 and make the Oline closer to special? I'm not sure but looks to me like a very mediocre offense talentwise right now.

Oh we will sign guys and claim we aren't boxed in. But the guys we sign won't make anyone really feel that way.

I think that's the way to go.

I think the OL is good enough even as is, with McGovern at LG, Biadasz at C, and Steele at RT. Teams around the league are winning with less.

But, the quickest route to elevating the offense is to try and get another stud or two on the OL. I'm all for loading up on OL in the draft.

Yeah, I mean I'm not opposed to trying to nail a WR to replace Cooper but that shit's not easy. The easiest route to success is probably take one of the two high end guards in this draft. Hope they can step in and play at a high level immediately. Helps the passing game by giving Dak lots of time to throw. Makes the running game easier by creating lanes. And while I hate investing ridiculous amounts of draft capital in the O-line it's probably our quickest way to making up ground on offense.

Then add a WR in the second/third round who can be a top 3 guy. Doesn't have to be in the first. But you need more at WR too otherwise a really good O-line is only going to do so much. What really sucks is that by cutting Cooper it now feels like the majority of our work has to be done on offense and now the defense is going to get ignored. A defense that was trending up and really could be great with just a little more work. But now we can't, all because of Cooper being traded for no fucking reason.

McGovern + a draft pick is obviously going to be the left guard situation.
I don't even want to look at free agency and look at names left because it just depresses me. We won't sign them. But I did it anyway and was wondering if Bradley Bozeman for example is an option. Played LG for the Ravens, started at center last year. He has that position flex we like. Could step in at LG or possibly center depending on what happens at the draft. Nice size and only 27 years old. Would make for a perfect sense signing for Dallas. Which is why we absolutely won't do it.
