Someone mentioned to me that Whitt is expected to follow Quinn to Seattle. Not sure where he heard it or how true it is, but apparently that notion is out there.

For the record this rumor was from one of the Dallas radio stations.

Given he probably has a strong relationship with McCarthy, I doubt McCarthy would get in his way if he preferred to go with Quinn.
I just doubt he'd want to go. Quinn is going to be the real DC wherever he goes. Whitt has been with McCarthy longer, and here he'd be able to run his own show.

I agree they are clearly both to blame. The one place I disagree with you on is that Jerry running his mouth is the reason Jimmy came out smelling like a rose.
I didn't say that Jerry running his mouth is the reason Jimmy came out smelling like a rose. (helped, tho) Jimmy being masterful at playing pretty much any situation is the reason for that. That, and millions of fans being upset that our HC that had just lead us to back to back championships was gone, on the tails of every paper in the free world with the headline "500 Coaches..." Jimmy played Jerry like a fiddle.

True, unless we don't want him as our DC. We might prefer someone outside the organization.

But Whitt might also think sticking with Quinn could lead to better opportunities (even though he'd be in Quinn's shadow, it wouldn't necessarily mean he wouldn't be considered for HC - for example several Andy Reid coaches got HC opportunities (Nagy, Pederson, Shurmur) even though everyone knows it's Reid's offense).

No, I know. I'm saying that.

It was pretty shocking for people at the time, and the biggest headlines - Jerry's infamous rant - made the biggest impression because otherwise it was hard for people to make sense of it all.

I could be wrong but my impression is that you are saying that people's hate for Jerry is why they side with Jimmy. But in my view nowhere near as many cowboys fans hated Jerry in 1994 when it happened.

I think the Jerry hate was building fast even before anyone even suspected Jimmy of leaving.

Remember when Jerry would bring people down to the sideline during games?

The local guys hated him immediately. He was the redneck oilman from Arkansas who fired Tom Landy, after all. Jimmy might have been a "college coach", but everyone knew he was a damn good one. I remember in our local paper there were calls for Jimmy to be the next coach months before Jerry even bought the team.

And then of course Jimmy was good at building relationships with the local media guys like Werder and Galloway and others. Some may not know that Rick Gosselin was a Jimmy bud going back to when Jimmy was an assistant at Pitt.

There were a lot of rumors before the sale.

That was one of the things that made it go down smoother.

I knew who Jimmy Johnson was. He was a coach I wanted us to have.

I didn't give two shits who the owner was because until Bum Bright started fucking everything up, it wasn't an issue.

Just thinking that it could have been Jerry Buss…

Jerry might have fired Tom, but all the writers knew Tom was done and needed to go. Tom stubbornly clung to the job far too long.

Three straight 12 win seasons. He would have to fuck up royally to get kicked out. And with his first year taking over the offense Dak is playing with the elites of the NFL. Why in the hell would anyone want to break that up just as we are seeing what Dak is capable of in a McCarthy led offense?
I think it would take balls to fire him if he doesn’t get the cowboys past round 2. Replace him with Bellichik with a chip on his shoulder? I could see the Cowboys doing a flashy move like that. I’d respect it.

If that happens it can only be for Belichick, can't be for Quinn unless the defense puts up some sort of Herculean effort in like a 13-10 loss or some unrealistic shit.

They are loaded at WR. They have a good young RB. They have some talented players in the secondary on defense.

All in all that team does have some talent. You can at least feel like it's a pretty damn good spot to put a good QB in and succeed. I think there is also an out with Geno if that's not your cup of tea. At least you don't get strapped with a Daniel Jones type for an period of time.
If I were the Seahawks I’d offer a 1st and a 3rd to the Bears for Justin Fields. Seems like he would be a perfect fit.

Well, we need to lock up Parsons before Quinn goes anywhere... IIRC, Micah once said that he wants to play wherever Quinn coaches. Now, I don't know if that still holds, but I don't want to take any chances.

Edit: I guess it still does... or is that his original comment from a while back?

I believe he's under contract for 2 more years and then they can franchise him another 2 if need be. Surely Quinn will be fired by then.

This thread seems ... premature. We might be stuck with him now if Jerry doesn't outright can him.
