So like, not before the 5th/6th round?
No like maybe 2nd or 3rd round type because we draft so low.

He is a playmaker, kind of a honey badger lite.

He actually had 4 int's this year.

And there was buzz heading into the year.

An executive told NFL.com analyst Daniel Jeremiah that TAMU safety Justin Evans is headed for top-20 status in the 2017 NFL Draft.

"This kid jumps off the tape. He's a better player than (2016 first-round pick) Karl Joseph. He's a ferocious hitter and he can cover a lot of ground. He will be a top-20 pick this spring," the executive told Jeremiah.

But he has like WR skillz and shit.
No kidding, can we just draft RBs who have actual RB skills and when we want a guy with WR skills just draft a WR?

I'm all for a RB who can catch the ball and be a threat in the passing game. But when they can't be a threat running the ball it defeats the purpose.

Besides, aren't there any RBs who can return the ball who are bigger then 170 pounds?

Pumphrey carried the ball like 1,000 times over his 4 years, he's small but I think he can hold up in a 5-8 carry/ST's role.

I'd rather get a more all-around back like a Brian Hill, Jeremy McNichols or some such, but I wouldn't mind Pumphrey at all in the 5th area.

Yeah, he is like second in all time rushing in college. But frankly I've seen this song and dance before and at 176 pound he isn't going to do much at RB in the NFL. He just doesn't have the mass to run through NFL arm tackles.

And absolutely not in the fifth round. You know who was a fifth round RB last year? Jordan Howard. I mean we don't have a fifth round pick anyway but you can get a legit back still at that point in most drafts. And you might be saying that Howard is a rare exception, but he isn't. The year before it was Jay Ajayi going in the fifth round who went over 1200 yards last season. The fifth is way to early to start looking for niche' players. Hold off on that shit until the seventh round.

I was a big fan of Howard and especially Ajayi in their respective drafts, you don't have to tell me where they were drafted. As far as this year, we don't have a 5th but when I said it I was thinking about picking at the end of the 5th, which is more or less a 6th at that point.

Obviously if a more well-rounded back like the guys I mentioned or a Kareem Hunt, Corey Clement or James Conner, then I'd go that way, but I also wouldn't be upset if we took Pumphrey in that late 5th/6th area.

I would have no issue drafting a dynamic return guy in the 5th round.

This team has needed one for a few years.

Yeah I'm all for that too. As long as that dynamic return guy also happens to have a real life NFL position. And be a dynamic punt returner, since kick returns are all but dead at this point.

You know how many times Pumphrey returned a punt in college? Or how about how many times he returned a kickoff?

So yeah I agree with your premise, that I'd love a dynamic punt returner. But a 170 pound back who has never returned a punt in meaningful football isn't that guy.
