Wade was always sort of a goof. I think the guy is a really good defensive coordinator but nothing beyond that. You don't really want him leading the team. But in terms of calling defensive plays I think he has proven he can do that at a pretty high level.
He's a good Xs and Os guy but he had already established himself as a guy who loses control of his teams through his laid back personality well before he ever got here.

Maybe if I had a Bill Parcells type as head coach I could see Wade as the X and O guy under him, but I'm not sure I'd ever want a situation where that guy had too much input on my team, at least not for more than a year or two.

He's a guy that I just have on an "avoid," list, and always have.

Wade is a good DC if you need a 1 year fix.

I'd like to see a 4-3 defensive coordinator and prefer a 4-3 overall. Besides that Gallimore and Hill don't fit well in a 3-4, you really need a special combination of size, anchoring ability, and two-gap awareness up front to play 3-4. Gallimore had his best game (Pittsburgh) attacking a single gap.

But the 3-4 would pose advantages LB wise. We'd have Lawrence, Gregory, LVE, and Smith (or his possible replacement) and the dependence on Smith would be a bit reduced.

Frankly in either style of defense we need a tougher NT. Start there, and then we can talk about flexing between 4-3 and 4-3 looks.

Can't believe Im saying this, but Eberflus is considered to be on the Jason Garrett coaching tree. :picard
I wouldn't consider him part of that.

He only came here because of his connection with Rob Ryan.

That was Garrett's biggest handicap. He didn't have defensive-minded resources to employ.

I don't remember there being any hate for Payton while he was here but the gnashing of teeth didn't start until after the '06 season playoff exit and Parcells leaving. Mike Zimmer definitely was a scapegoat on this board, sucked at Atlanta, looked bad in Cincy in '08 and '10. '09 Jonathan Joseph and Leon Hall played out of their minds. The other years his D-line and LBs were pretty solid

Hill actually played in quite a bit of 3-4 in college, both as DE and NT and performed well at both spots. I preferred him at NT, but he produced at all spots.

His issue has always been about motivation, not skill

Love him. Showed true ball hawk skills as a freshman and has grown into a better all around player since. He’ll play in the Senior Bowl and I expect he’ll show some good things that week as well.

Another to keep an eye on is Aaron Robinson. He could be a nickel CB specialist similar to the kid who went in the 1st a few years ago out of TCU.
