The difference is in year 5 that deal will be a bargain deal. Dak doesn't want to give them that bargain. Plus the Cowboys love the ability to rework the deal to create cap space. Longer deals give them more flexibility to do that.
If the guy is turning down 35 AAV because of 4 years vs. 5 I would honestly just tell him to fuck off and go see how much endorsement money he can make in Jacksonville throwing the ball to Dede Westbrook and Laviska Shenault instead of Cooper, Gallup and Lamb.
It's hard to have too firm of an opinion on the situation because we have no idea what's going on in negotiations but if they're offering him 35 AAV in pretty much any form or fashion he's an idiot for turning it down.
If this is truly the case then I side with the team.
Only I genuinely dislike him as a QB. Great leader, great guy. Not a good QB.Do you remember when you were young a d didn't want people to know that you liked a girl so you picked on or teased that girl so you wouldnt be embarrassed? That is what we have here. We jist need to help Plan9 come to the understanding tbat it's ok to express his love for Dak.
If shoe were on other foot, would you trade multiple 1sts and et al for Tier 2 Dak, knowing that it’d be immediately accompanying a Tier 1 contract? If the deadline passes and there is a team willing to throw 2 1st's and a few mid round picks at us, they should take it and plan for the future.
If that's the only hang up, then get the shit done. This is ridiculous.
Either give the man 36 mil a year for 5 years or do the deal at 34 for 4 years. This shit isn't that hard.If that's the only hang up, then get the shit done. This is ridiculous.
I agree with your conclusion; with the addendum, if he’s not gonna be elite, and you are possibly looking at parting in two seasons, what could you get for him right now in trade? Need to think about it.Precisely. Unless you think he is your franchise QB, you have to be prudent about it. Think the Rams have buyer's remorse about paying Goff?
Tag him this year and next if you are unsure. Then get the third round comp pick if you are still not sold.
I think he has done enough to earn the contract. But it looks like both he and his representation are about setting the market.
I say nope to that, he's never going to be at that elite level.
You should probably think about making a Superbowl run instead of rebuilding.I agree with your conclusion; with the addendum, if he’s not gonna be elite, and you are possibly looking at parting in two seasons, what could you get for him right now in trade? Need to think about it.
One choice. Depends on the circumstances. If, for example, you could have gotten the Dolphins 5th pick and next years first for Dak, and could have taken Tua, and still have Dalton.... that’s an appealing option. You should probably think about making a Superbowl run instead of rebuilding.
No damn way am I rolling the dice with an unknown in place of a proven good starting QB. The QB transition from college to the NFL is probably the hardest to make. I'll stick with Dak, thanks. One choice. Depends on the circumstances.
