I’m not suggesting he be cut or traded rather I posed a question of why he should be paid the highest QB or tier 1 money. I can’t seem to find an answer that says he should. That the extent my inquiry goes.

So according to what I am reading it just a rotatation of who comes up on the contract renewal merrygoround and if it’s their time to grab the golden ring they suddenly become tier one qualified by virtue of being next in line? Seems an odd way to evaluate worth for performance.

He's not a schlub, nor is he Patrick Mahomes or Aaron Rogers. These are factors that position him within the current framework of quarterback compensation. Its not just his turn to receive a windfall for being average.

Prescott's turn to get paid came at an opportune time. That's all there is to it. He and his agent waited (while the Cowboys tried to lowball them) and it paid off for them.

After Dak is signed, Watson's deal and then Mahomes deal will make it look like a bargain by comparison, especially as the salary cap continues to skyrocket.

Did it pay off though? His base salary was $2,025,000 in 2019.

Could have been a lot more, plus a massive SB in his pocket. No future money is going to offset the fact he only got 2 million in 2019.

Just keep chaining it forward a year. The disparity is so high between first contract and every subsequent one that it makes no sense to sign him before absolutely having to.

It's not assuming anything. And sure, we could upgrade. But I'm not willing to take that VERY slim gamble. I think it's stupid to think we can just get rid of a good young QB and think it will be probable that we will just immediately find an upgrade. When in reality, we would be damn lucky to find a QB even as good as Dak is right now. Chances are, as we've all seen with the odds of finding that franchise QB, we would be taking a step back.

Anyone can do it if determined.

It’s the most important position on the field so the draft picks required to secure the player almost don’t matter.

I do it if Dak is seriously hijacking the teams cap.

Let him fend for himself on the open market. You could sign Cam Newton for a year for much less than the franchise tag for little to no drop off in performance while Tua develops.

Then you’d even get a comp pick for him.

Bottom line you can’t let anyone rape you in negotiations.

Let him prove he’s a badass worthy of the league’s biggest contract.

Go ahead to the Broncos... see if they had a fraction of the offensive talent that all but friggin nurtured Dak these last four years.

No f'n way. Dak Prescott will never be mistaken for the league's greatest passer, but he looks like Peyton Manning compared to Cam Newton. Newton's biggest claim to fame was his ability to run with the ball. And he is fading pretty fast in that department.

So you won't pay 35 mil.

But you'll roll the dice trading 3 firsts and possibly more for a QB? Doesn't make sense to me. I'll take my 3 firsts and sacrifice the money because I already have the QB. Those first round picks plug holes at a far cheaper price.

Dallas is going to pay 35m this season one way or another. That’s settled by the franchise tag. If a deal isn’t struck for a contract we will still see from his performance and whether he will be worth top tier payment. At that time he can make demands based on actual performance If he doesn’t impress then he will entertain a different offer or maybe decide to look elsewhere. Either way putting the franchise tag on him puts the onus on him to deliver. From my perspective there is no reason to do anything further this season. Cease negotiations and see if he can make the grade to top tier.
