The Cowboys don’t have a decision to make about their franchise QB: It’s Dak Prescottmoving forward, following one of the best statistical years of his career. But his contract is another story.

With one year left at $34 million, the issue isn’t just that Prescott is underpaid. It’s also that, because of the way the contract was set up, his cap number in 2024 is set to be nearly $60 million, and the Cowboys can’t franchise him in 2025 because the number would be astronomical.

In other words, Dallas should be highly motivated to do a new contract before free agency. Expect the two sides to get together in the weeks following the Super Bowl and start working. Prescott should once again be one of the highest-paid -- if not the highest-paid -- quarterbacks in the NFL, with the Cowboys gaining valuable cap room to operate in free agency if they do a deal.

They likely think Michael Jordan is just an old who doesn't understand and wouldn't succeed today.

I mean, that's like ancient history, bruh.
But they love Kobe Bryant and he was cut from the exact same cloth as MJ.

These guys are far more like LeBron than MJ or Kobe and that's not a good thing.

We also can't franchise him because it's in his contract.

A playoff shitting the bed QB cannot be the highest paid player in the sport. Just can't. The team will be crippled salary cap-wise paying a merely good player best in the sport money. I don't give a fuck about markets, leverage, anything. You have to take your cap beating this year and get on with it. Hard to believe these dumb fucking hillbillies put themselves in a position where a choking QB controls the franchise.

Wait…so they are going to decide to step up now? Is this like a New Year’s Resolution? The same guys will be doing the exact same things they always have. And they might get tired next year too.

The article astutely points out that they the talked about discipline for penalties, and yet they were the 3rd and 4th most penalized players on the team.

On top of Micah talking about off the field distractions. On a podcast that he hosts, including during the season.

When your top players are the most undisciplined, it's hard for the rest of the team to fall in line.

I hope these guys get some self awareness and do some man in the mirror work of their own.

Well put. They are walking and talking (a lot) contradictions to the very things that are wrong.

Interesting breakdown of the Zimmer defense from about 4 years ago. (Funny that he contrasts it with Quinn's defense in Atlanta at the beginning.)

I don't think that's true that they have no choice, but rather the choice is about priorities.

I don't think Pollard will be particularly expensive at this point. But it's still a question of do you want to spend 5 million or so on Pollard? Or use that money elsewhere?

I think they can afford Pollard but personally I don't think you get bang for your buck with that particular player.

Derrick Henry though? Yeah I'd spend it on him.

It's not a RB thing so much as a Pollard thing.

Pollard needs to return to the role he had 2 years ago. What he was last year wasn't worth 5 mil. So the question is, does a complimentary RB who is really good in that role, quantify 5 mil? I have a hard time thinking it's financially worth it. If we bring Pollard back RB is still a major priority. Or at least it needs to be.

I have a feeling neither Pollard nor the team want him back next year.
