Really? I'm not. That's what made college football great. Every week really did matter, at least for most teams. Now these early losses barely matter.
I don't agree with that at all and I think the whole argument of this making every week count is greatly exaggerated and has always been flawed.
We're all sports fans here, right?
What loss affects you the most? Football losses, right? It's not baseball, basketball, hockey, etc.
Think of how we've all felt on Sunday night or Monday morning after a loss when our fandom for the Cowboys has been at its highest.
I'm sure you felt physically ill like the rest of us did after the 2005 Santana Moss game on MNF. And that was just the second game of that season.
And why was that? Because we know how much each game matters and each loss has the potential to be the difference in getting into the playoffs or not.
One game can be the difference in winning your division or not, hosting a playoff game or going on the road, etc.
The NFL has shown us time and time again that there's already enough consequences that come with losing games in the NFL because they play so few of them compared to the other sports.
There's no need for one loss to cost you everything for the games to matters more. They already matter enough and the losses are already significantly consequential to where I've never bought that argument from traditional college football fans that the playoffs somehow diminishes the college regular season.
