Garrett was Jerry's all-time favorite Pet Project and he wasn't a retread and got way too long a leash. Then Jerry insisted the offense be put in Kellen's hands and he'd never even been a coach anywhere else before. Going way back, Chan Gailey wasn't a retread.

Most of these young coordinators fail or are average as HCs. It happens all over the league all the time.
Most newbs and retreads fail unless they have an elite qb. The stars have to align perfectly for anyone to win a championship otherwise. That’s the bottom line.

On a positive note I think Jerry Jones has at least been convinced now that Dak is not a QB they should continue to invest in and build around going forward. Let this contract play out, then move on.
this. This should seal the deal.

Because I felt like most of what happened while the game was still competitive was correctable, and that they actually stood up and made some stops in critical situations but the offense did absolutely nothing to help them out. The run defense was also pretty solid while the game was competitive, Deebo had like 2-3 solid runs but McCarthy was mostly under wraps.

A lot of the issues early on were penalties, giving up the trick play, allowing a screen to pop on 2nd and 12 and so forth, those are things that can be corrected and/or aren't systemic.

The only drive that really pissed me off was the opening drive of the 2nd half when it was 21-10 and they gave up a 3rd and 12 conversion, although on that drive Purdy was just locked in and making some ridiculous throws after not being forced to do much in the first half because they could afford to play at their pace and rhythm without being forced into high leverage situations.

Like yea, they gave up some plays obviously but the dam is always going to break when your offense is going 3 and out 85% of the time.

I hope you're right but I think you are being way too generous to the defense. They weren't good, and this was the unit we were supposed to hang out hat on.

Here is the sad reality: we are as good a defense as Philly and SF
this I disagree with. This defense is good against shitty offenses. Just like Dak cant beat a good defense, this defense struggles against good (even mediocre) offenses.

I've had that opinion for a while now, but I'm starting to wonder if it's the QB. Cooks doesn't look so great either. What's the common denominator? It's either the QB or the scheme or both.

I don't think Gallup is great but him and Cooks are more useful than they've shown.
Cooks was wide open for about a 50 yard gain. Dak flat out missed him. That’s definitely on Dak.
Gallup has lost a ton of speed and he’s not making any acrobatic catches like he did pre injury.

If LVE is out for an extended period it's going to be an issue, but I'm comfortable with this defense being good enough to lead the way to that 10-12 win range. I also like them against most potential playoff opponents, but SF just seems to be this teams kryptonite in every which way.

The biggest issue against them is I think they have no respect or fear whatsoever for Dak or the offense and they know they can bide their time with no real concern that we'll run away from them. They're always in their comfort zone basically.

Shanahan has Quinn’s number and it ain’t even close.
Shanahan has Quinn and McCarthy's number and home address. Completely out coached.
Didnt Demeco Ryans leave the building to coach the Texans?

The middle of this defense has become a liability. Kearse and Wilson need to be accountable since that word is being thrown around today.

You definitely shouldn’t be burning the tape. Pore over that and see all the areas this team looked awful and see what you can do to fix them. Take off the rose colored glasses and truly evaluate everyone on the roster from Dak and Micah to Goodwin and Golston

You act surprised. He spoke the truth.
Surprised because most media people and former players handle Dak with kid gloves.

There is a balance. They have another game coming up. They can’t sit around trying to fix what the Niners did to them. They are already in our collective heads as it is.

Last week Dak chided someone who poked him about the playoff loss. Its time someone besides LeSean McCoy needs to let it fly.

You’re kidding, right??

That D is nowhere in the same stratosphere as the Niner or Eagle D.
No pressure on Purdy last night. Guys running free all thru the secondary. Run game wasn’t spectacular but the Niners got the yards on the ground when they needed it.

Shanahan has Quinn’s number and it ain’t even close.
The 49ers faced a shit offense last night and we faced a great one. You can't compare the performances straight up.

We are on the 49ers tier on defense. Even an elite defense isn't holding teams to 17 points a game in today's league.
