Having to go for it on 4th down can be a benefit to the D though. I’ve seen more 4th and 1-2 yards failures in the last 3-4 years than I ever saw before.
Seriously, it’s like people forgot why it’s common knowledge that you kick on 4th down barring a short yardage try just outside FG range. People randomly going for it are getting burned and looking stupid for trying.

Of course there’s no guarantee, but I’m just saying it’s hard enough stopping Patrick Mahomes three times in a row, only to have to give him one more try because of the situation.

Purdy is a glorified bus driver and nothing I saw in playoffs has led me to believe differently.
Yep. I referred to him being a one trick pony because he essentially has only one game. He can take a snap and without moving one step throw a 5 yard pass to someone in the gap and they can run a few more yards. This is effective because it allows the Niners to maintain possession and score by having more possessions. Take that away from the offense and the Niners will struggle.

Just finished watching the game.
  • Amazing how razor thin Chiefs won that Super Bowl. So many things had to go their way to allow opportunity for Mahomes GW-drive. One 49ers completion, one 49ers miscue disappear and 49ers win.
  • Chiefs got away with several OL holding calls. Amazing they had four or five fumbles and only lost one.
  • McDuffie is every bit an All-Pro, shutting down WRs and minimizing YAC
  • Chiefs DTs were unsung heroes stuffing McCaffrey
  • Wonder how much Greenlaw’s injury made a difference
  • I can see why 49ers fans overwhelmingly say this SB loss hurt more than the previous two. 49ers had so many miscues and chances to nail the coffin.
  • Truly a game where one play different would swing championship other way. Not high-scoring, but intense game once 10-0. Chiefs completing the comeback so slowly was such a build up.
  • If you told me Chiefs scored one TD in four red zone trips (in regulation), no way would I think Chiefs win.
  • Brock Purdy was given the opportunity to win the game, especially in 3rd qtr.
  • Mahomes with multiple Super Bowl winning drives, man. Top 5 all-time, maybe #3.
  • That 4th and 1 OT that Mahomes scrambled for will haunt 49ers fans. One play.
  • Tony Romo talked too much. Didn’t let Nantz properly frame the game-winning play, then kept yapping without significance during the celebration
  • Relieved. Avoided a SF win again, but 49ers window still open for at least three years, as they will still benefit from Purdy’s contract in 2024 and probably backload the cap hit on Purdys extension to keep 2025/2026 reasonable.

McCaffrey is going to drop off at any moment and that will be a huge blow to their offense. They likely have a solid 2-3 year window depending on when Trent Williams retires, but I could easily see them not being as good as they were this year at any point during that time.

I can't believe he stayed healthy the whole season. I bet that never happens again.
