My guess is that they're gambling that Ja'Marr Chase will fall to 6.
I like Chase a lot as a WR but the Alabama kids are pretty awesome too. I actually think it makes more sense if they wanted Pitts but WR makes more sense for them. Pitts is sort of a lone wolf though. If you don't get him I don't think there is another TE even similar.

I wonder if Miami is accumulating picks to go get Watson, legal troubles and all.

no reason why he can't stay and play the Alex Smith role, at least for a year

Other than cap savings, not much reason he couldn't stay. They could save like 25 mil though buy trading or dumping him.

unless he's a mental midget like Wentz, who couldn't handle competition

The interesting thing is that if Pitts makes it past 6 he's likely going to be there at 10.

Detroit has Hockenson and Denver has Fant so 7 and 9 can almost be completely ruled out. Carolina, or whoever Carolina trades up with, could potentially take him but it's also just as likely that they take the 5th QB or a guy like Surtain.

Trey Lance literally can't be trusted to throw 20 passes a game at this point unless 10 of them are off play-action, kind of hard to see him being ranked above Fields although I get it conceptually given how play-action heavy the 49ers offense is.

I guess if you think the 49ers will start Jimmy G and let him sit maybe that's a good fit. But do you really make that trade up so that you can pay another QB 25 mil to start while the new guy sits and learns? Usually the teams that do that have a QB fall in their laps. I think the 49ers made their move because there is a rookie QB they think they can win now with. That's got to be Fields.

He's a good prospect but come on, you know it's true.

If anything it speaks to how strong the NDSU program is, I could easily argue that his supporting cast is stronger than Alabama's relative to the level of competition, which is why he's such a project.

The draft and UDFA's will be littered with Alabama players.

If any NDSU WRs/TE's/RBs even get picked up as UDFAs, this might make sense. But they won't, so it doesn't. Regardless of "level of competition."

Relatively speaking.

Like, there's a bigger disparity between NDSU's talent and the teams they're playing than Alabama's and the teams they're playing.
