I don't know, I wouldn't put it past them to still put in ND over us

I think ND still makes it in. Yeah they got crushed today but Texas A&M got crushed in their 1 loss as well. So the quality of the loss is a bit of a wash, IMO.

Also, if Bama pours it on and beats Florida by 4 TDs that will further diminish TAMU's win over UF.

Personally I'd rather see TAMU get in over ND. Give the fans something fresh to watch in the CFB playoffs.

If the committee utilizes the concept they devised that teams enter into a tournament from the games played all season then it would seem that in the last part of the tournament a team would lose their standing if they lost a contest at that point. That’s what a tournament does. It eliminates contenders to the end by contests.

Timing of the loss does play into TAMU's favor. The loss to Bama was so early in the year they can make an argument that they're a better team now.

I hate A&M, but i’m with you on something fresh. Do we really want Bama/Clemson/OSU/ND again? I’m sick of it. Which is the biggest reason why I want an 8 team playoff. But for this year, ill take a fresh face. At least Jimbo has the experience. Would probably be more competitive than those worthless overrated hacks in South Bend.

Seems like there's a lot more talk and frustration this year because they've come to the realization that it's pretty much always going to be the same 6 o7 teams rotating in and out of the playoffs and everyone else is pretty much excluded. Bama/Clemson/ND/Oklahoma/OSU/Georgia take your pick.....some variation of those schools are virtual locks to occupy at least 3 or the 4 playoff spots each year.

I think they need to come up with some type of hybrid system combining the old BCS and the current playoff system. Get rid of the "human factor" and their biases and rely on the hard data. Expand it to 6 or 8 teams as well so the Cincy's of the world can feel like they have a legit seat at the table as well.

At this point, the powers that be will never relinquish their ability to decide who gets in, but at 8 squads, I highly doubt any sane person is going to be bitching about how the #9 team got screwed out of a chance for a title. I think 8 is inclusive enough to the teams that are legitimate contenders without saturating the field.

It will keep things fresh from year to year, its college football so there will be upsets, and as the NFL learned years ago, true parity is good for the sport.

8 teams also opens it up a little for an outsider to make a run. Might be some fun of a not Alabama, OSU, Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia crashing the party. It would be fun to be able to see an actual upset in the playoffs. And maybe a school you don't expect makes some noise.

I'll have to research to see when was the last time a TE was drafted top 5. Was it Jeremy Shockey?

Anyhow, Pitts is one of those hybrid TE/WR types. I think a team could get away with drafting him early. I doubt anyone could legitimately bitch about drafting a player who looks like he might be as productive as a guy like Kelce.

Not trying to slant the discussion in either way, but at that point you have to wonder from a strategic perspective, what sort of value will we see from turning one side of the ball from almost a juggernaut into a literal unstoppable force?

I mean, historically speaking, what other team would even be able to compare to that sort of lineup? And would it be enough to offset expected defensive shortcomings?

Vernon Davis went 6th in 2006

TJ Hockenson went 8th in 2019

For the Cowboys I absolutely would not take Pitts in the top 5. I thought Simp was just saying BPA at 4 in general.

Winslow was probably the highest but I think he went 6, Hockenson was in the top 10 two years ago.

It'd be really difficult for me given what we have invested at WR and our defensive needs but if he's the BPA it's hard to pass it up without a trade down. If we manage to actually add an impact player or two on defense in free agency it'd make it much more palatable, but it's really hard to ignore what the guy is doing.

If this were a normal season he'd be on pace for 1200+ yards and about 17 TD's, which is literally unheard of for a TE.

Even the TE's who go in the top 10-15 usually put up about 600 yards and 6 TD's.

Yea I don't think it'd really be worth it but it's getting to the point where he might be the clear BPA given how weak the defensive prospects in the top 10 are.

You basically don't have any top 10 worthy DL except maybe a guy like Rousseau or Jaelan Phillips but they're both one year wonders to an extent, Surtain is meh and Farley is fine but sat out a year and isn't a bona fide top 10 guy. Parsons is the only one I feel really good about but he also sat out the year and is an off-ball LB.

If Pitts runs like a 4.5 at 6-6, 240 I think it'd be hard to argue he isn't the BPA except for maybe Parsons.

And Surtain is a bystander despite seemingly being in a cover-3 type coverage where he's responsible for a deep third down the sideline.

Pitts looks Fitzgerald-esque in these contested situations, he seems to always win.
