when the rules became more rigid, it was because QBs were getting fucked up with defenders helmets torpedoing into QBs helmets (ie Wilbur Marshall & Aikman). Yeah, that’ll make a QB see stars.

Fast forward to Sunday, Gholston essentially gave a forceable chest chop with his arms. And not on purpose like a Ric Flair chop, but arms coming back down from a swat attempt. We’ve sort of accepted that refs are going to call this most of the time, but it’s absurd for this kind of contact to even be a penalty. It’s a far departure from original intent in QB safety.

When the fuck has a chest chop or hand grazing a helmet led to a concussion. QBs are not small people, either, many the size of LBers themselves.

I don’t believe anyone here is clamoring for 20+ carries for Pollard, though, which is why much of this anti-Pollard criticism is irrelevant.

The clamor is for Thunder & Lightning split 70/30 with Lightning getting 70.

I don't think it's anti-pollard. I think it's just a point to tap the brakes on Pollard after he had a well blocked performance against the 30th ranked run defense.

I'd imagine that it's because the league, much like the country as a whole, is extremely litigious and loves to parse out language and hold the refs to some sort of rigid "letter of the law" ethos.

It's also kind of like how bureaucracies slowly creep over time and tend to only add layers of complexity as opposed to scaling things back.

Of course there's also the whole "default to offense" posture the league has taken to attract the Joe Fan's who don't understand what they're watching and just want to see shiny objects.

Ironically, I believe these kinds of penalties turn away the casual fan. It’s hard for casual fans to buy-in when grasping the complex rules is difficult. Roughing the QB penalties are one of the most visible penalties where enforcement is so inconsistent. That’s gonna make a casual fan throw their hands up in exasperation and say ‘F this. I don’t understand it’

I noticed he started to slow down around the 10 yard line on that long run. I thought he was going to get tripped up inside the 5.

While true, he also doesn't need to be a backup to a RB whose prime was 5 years ago.

And Pollard has been killing it up the middle, this is nothing new.

I think it is more about how the Raiders under Gruden had Napoleon Kaufmann (later Charlie Garner) and Tyrone Wheatley and we able to balance the workload.

This isn't some novel concept to split carries between RBs. I think the real problem with all of this is that Zeke just isn't that good anymore. There really isn't a question of which RB is better than the other. Pollard is the better RB and Pollard should split carries with another RB.

I think the real problem is, Zeke's just leaving a lot of yards on the field with his runs. Pollard's success just sort of highlights Zeke's deficiency. Zeke could have a role still but for most carries, his lack of speed, ability to make a guy miss and frankly ability to break tackles has become a liability.
