The Giants first interviewed Judge on the 8th, news broke that we were hiring McCarthy on the 6th. I think it took two days for it to become official but for all intents and purposes he was hired on the 6th.

I saw an article from the Giants website that was dated the 8th, but even if it was the afternoon of the 6th McCarthy had already been hired. If anything, them jumping to interview Judge that quickly after McCarthy was hired could indicate that they McCarthy was in contention and that they felt their options were starting to dwindle.

Which I think is almost certainly borne out by example.

Picking a guy higher doesn't cause a player to be better. Which is what causation is. Higher picks always tend to be better players than lower picks. Where they were picked doesn't make them a better player though.
