It's cool when you're like years removed from the last legendary WR but Dez was on the team 3 years ago, it seems too soon, plus Lamb seemingly didn't really want it.

I'd have just let him roll with whatever he wanted but it's whatever.
He didn't. Shortly after he was drafted he called in to the fan and was pretty excited to be bringing #10 to Dallas next season.

Then they asked Jerry post draft conference and he made it known that he was going to wear #88 because "tradition" and also to honor his old Arkansas friend who died this year and shared the same last.

This is what was said when Jerry was talking to RJ Ochoa of Blogging the Boys:

“When we were, this is a little drama from our perspective, when we were all sitting there and had said our piece, and then we said, ‘okay, what’s it going to be?’ I said in honor of my great friend that just passed this year we’re going to have his namesake come on here and wear old number 88. Just like Michael and Dez and those guys, and we’ve got us a wide receiver. And let me tell you one thing if he’s got the competes and heart of that Jerry Lamb he’ll be bad to the bone.”

Sadly, it's just pretty damn petty on Jerry's end and pretty low to guilt someone into taking a number they don't want.

At one point #88 truly meant something but it's given out far too frequently since Irvin retired that any significant meaning it once had is worn out now.

I will probably get rebuffed for saying this but a lot of Lambs success during his senior year can be attributed to the guy throwing the ball to him. For Lamb to have the statistical success he did there had to be some pretty good throws.

Antonio Bryant was also gifted 88...

Luckily I think Dez washed that stank off the number.

And that goes both ways, btw.

Lamb broke a ridiculous number of tackles and made so many plays after the catch, a lot like Cooper in 2018, that it lifted that whole offense.

We need playmakers who don’t need a QB to thread a needle or throw them open.

Lamb is perfect— let Dak throw a quick pass and then break for extra yards, maybe even score. Cooper blew up in 2018 with that very style.

I don’t know how high you guys are on Michael Gallup, but I think he’s a legit #1 or close to being there. His route running is second to none. He can stretch the field and make contested catches, uses his body really well to shield defenders.

I’m thinking this team could have 3 legit #1 wideouts if Lamb is what he appears to be.

That’s insane.

And especially handy since Amari doesn’t like playing in away games.

I'd be willing to bet that his home/away splits will change now that we no longer have a chicken shit head coach that coaches scared away from home.

Cooper did have some trouble with disappearing in his last stop. I wouldn't put ALL the blame on the coach.

The player has this history.

Now, of course, McCarthy was a top 10 or even top 5 coach at one point during his last stop. He faded towards the end of his tenure himself a bit, but hopefully if he's rejuvenated as he says and he's spent the last year reinventing some of his tendencies, he can return to that top coach status, which will mean he's the best coach Amari Cooper has had in either Dallas or Oakland. And that will be interesting to see then if the coaching can eliminate the lapses.
