Hate it.

Hate it so much that I'm going to end up as "out" on football as I possibly can be.

I don't know if I can ever cut out my Cowboys addiction but a 17th game and an expanded playoffs essentially ruins the game for me. It ruins the perfect symmetry of the league's schedule and team balance. Before you know it they will be adding a 33rd team because they can't keep their greedy fucking hands off a $400 million franchise fee.

I have never paid less attention to an NFL offseason and if they do this, I think it damages my perception of the league permanently, unless and until they return to 16 games. It is fucking atrocious.
I'm not as upset as you are but I agree that a 17th game is just stupid. I hate it. Seems totally unnecissary and is a pure money grab. For a league that's always looking to find ways to make more money that's all this is about. Plus its a pain in the ass to rethink stats. With an extra game guys will be throwing for more, rushing more and scoring more TDs. It cheapens things like a 2000 yard season for a RB. Or a 5,000 yard season for a QB.

In the end I don't care about one extra playoff game. Cheapens winning your division a little because its easier to get a wild card but I can live with that.

I hate the 17th game way more than the expanded playoff, but even the expanded playoff is unfathomably stupid IMO.

All they need is 50% plus one and it passes. From what I'm seeing, that's clearly what the owners are going for.
That's exactly right. Most of teams cap is eaten up by their top 10 players. This proposal is designed to benefit the other players on the roster.

My own opinion is this:

I would have preferred an 18-game season but with some conditions.

Each team would have two bye weeks, making for a 20-week regular season (about 5 months).

And players would still play just 16 games. Teams will have to decide when they played, based on health, standings, or strategy. This allows records to remain intact.

Adding in the playoffs, it gives us essentially 6 months with football and 6 months without.

The two biggest douchers doing the most talking. Not surprising.
And the NFL's "1 percenters". Of course they're looking out solely for themselves.

Rodgers should do himself and everyone else a favor and just quit. Then he can have all the "free time" he wants to spend with his favorite person in the world - himself.

Honestly I don't see what's wrong with more football. I'm sure a lot of people complained when they went from 14 to 16 too. I don't care about milestone numbers and records and symmetry and whatever. We'll all adjust.

Haven't kept up with this, so how does a 17 game season resolve an unequal number of home and away games?

They would rotate 8 home games/7 away and flip the next year.

Hate that solution. Seasons are self-contained. The edge you lose in one season isn't made up by a gain the next season.

What’s the formula for determining the 17th game - another AFC team? A third divisional game rotating amongst PHI, WASH and NYG?

16 games was perfect because all 16 games were pre-determined - 6 division, 4 rotating AFC division, 4 rotating NFC division and last 2 vs same place NFC other divisions.

if Non-Divisional, adding a 17th game and, slippery slope alert, the inevitable 18th game would diminish the importance of your divisional record to win the division.

Not a fan of that.
