Jimmy Johnson has heard from Eagles owner, not Jerry Jones since Hall of Fame announcement
Jason Owens
Jimmy Johnson found out this month that he’s headed to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
The former Dallas Cowboys coach who won two Super Bowls and built the roster that won a third will receive the game’s highest individual honor in August.
He’ll do so before — if ever — being enshrined into the Cowboys ring of honor, the de facto hall of fame for the storied franchise.
Johnson still waiting to hear from Jones
And as of now, he’s headed to Canton without hearing from Jerry Jones, the man who hired him to run those early 90s Cowboys team before a messy split resulted in Johnson’s departure from football.
Jones, a studio analyst for Fox’s NFL coverage, talked about his impending enshrinement during a news conference in Miami on Tuesday ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl. He told reporters he’s heard from former NFL players, friends and multiple team owners to congratulate him.
Is Jones among those them?
“No, I haven’t heard anything,” Johnson said.

Jones issued statement
Jones issued a statement on the team’s website celebrating Johnson’s achievement. But the ice apparently hasn’t thawed enough to allow for a phone call to the man who orchestrated the only Super Bowls Jones knows as an owner.
To put things in perspective, Johnson said that Jeffery Lurie — the owner of the rival Philadelphia Eagles — did reach out. As did Los Angeles Chargers owner Dean Spanos.

About the ring of honor
As for that ring of honor enshrinement? There’s no word that it’s in the pipeline as Johnson’s Hall induction ramps up pressure to include him.
Troy Aikman, the quarterback of those Super Bowl teams, believes he’ll make it one day.
“He’s going to go in,” Aikman said after the news of Johnson’s Hall induction. “At some point, Jimmy Johnson will be in the Cowboys’ ring of honor.”
He’s just not so sure it will happen under Jones’ watch.
“I just hope it’s when they’re both alive. It’s a moment that players want, and more importantly, it’s a moment I think the fans want.”

OK, I will defend Jimmy Johnson. (I know) In Miami he built the best defensive talent in the league.

I think its great that Jerry can't escape Jimmy's shadow. Jimmy being elected to the HOF is just one more reminder of the great teams he built in the 90s -- and what a dismal failure Jerry's been since then. Don't think Jerry's doesn't have that front and center in his alcohol-soaked mind, and why he hasn't called Jimmy yet.

I'd hardly call him a dismal failure. He turned a 50 million dollar investment into billions. Became a very powerful voice in the NFL. Made the HOF because of it.

Wish I could fail like that.

Subtext in these elections is Cowher and Johnson’s high profile jobs in media.

Clearly the committee rounded up their valuations base on it in much the same way they did for Madden

He's a dismal failure at the thing he craves the most -- being thought of as a "football guy." He's a dismal failure at overcoming the commonly held belief that Jimmy Johnson was the architect of those successes in the '90s -- not Jerry Jones. He's a dismal failure at the only thing that counts in the NFL -- winning.

They don't hand out Lombardi Trophies for increasing the value of your franchise. They hand them out for winning.

Most NFL franchises are worth tons more than they were in 1989. So what? And lots of hedge fund managers and investment bankers could parlay $140 million into billions over the course of 30 years. (Jerry paid $140 million for the team, not $50 million.)

Jimmy Johnson got into the HOF for winning games. Jerry got in for being a huckster, a snake oil salesman and a carnival barker.

It's been over 20 years. It's crazy to me that Jerry can't just suck up his pride and bury the hatchet. Every Cowboys fan would love to see it happen. It would be better for everyone.

Stephen is a good boy. He does what Daddy tells him to do. Would be interesting to see how he would behave without his daddy there.

Not for me. And I'm a Cowboy fan. Revenge is a dish best served cold. Fuck Jerry. It's comeuppance time, all the dog-shit he's fed fans for 25 years. I love the picture of Jerry stewing is his own isolation, as the last great Cowboy coach gets his accolades.

Recall the night in that bar when Jerry was half shitfaced and couldn't abide the idea that Jimmy was getting all the credit. Ask not for whom the bell tolls Jerry, it tolls for thee.

Even more delicious is Troy saying Jimmy's got to be in the ROH and Jerry hiding his head in the sand. Troy's also saying that the players want to see it.

How absurd would it be for Jimmy to be in the HOF, the acknowledged architect of the the last era of Cowboys' success, and not be included in the ROH. Jerry will have to confront the issue one of these days -- unless he dies first. Either way, I can't wait.

Grrrr.... Dismal failure! :lol

Oh, and for the record... Your standard set here is Lombardi trophies? Well, Jimmy didn't do so well in that department after leaving Dallas. Yeah, he's a good coach. But it was the perfect storm then. For both of them.
