I wonder why guys like Landry, Parcells, and Jimmy Johnson didn't bitch that they didn't get to call their own plays.

It's almost as if good coaches can win while someone else calls plays.

Fuck Garrett. Full of shit slimy weasel trying say anything to save his fucking skin.

He had a zillion fucking chances here. No coach outside of Marvin Lewis gets ten fucking years at a place without actually winning.

Get the fuck out of here with that shit.
But all of them could have called their own plays if they wanted to.

If Garrett thinks he could only succeed if he's in charge of the playcalling, then he should have been fired 6 years ago when it was clear that wasn't working.

Instead they decided to hold his hand and continue to give him chance after chance and he's going to have the audacity to complain that he didn't have the function that they took away from him to save him from getting fired 6 years ago?

That's fucking rich.
Lots of coaches have insisted on calling the plays when their jobs were on the line though. It’s a reasonable request.

This is exactly right. It all goes back to personal responsibility. Garrett never takes any. And yes blaming everyone else except the man in the mirror is a slimy, back stabbing move.

Landry called plays more often than he didn't, actually. Don Meredith called his own plays, Dan Reeves called plays for a while, but Landry called his own after Reeves got a HC gig until the mid 80s when he let Paul Hackett take over play calling for a while (then took it back).

"Jerry, please let me go back to calling plays that got us to 8-8. I know last time it didn't go so well, but I have changed. I promise, this time!

If the guy was actually successful at it and Garrett wanted to go back to calling plays I would get it. But losing that job basically saved his job years ago.

For sure, and that’s really why he needs to be gone. If it was all on Moore tanking the offense, he’s have a point, but at the end of the day there were too many other problems.
Moore didn't tank the offense.

The offensive productivity is what people like you used to pretend that Garrett-run offenses were when you insisted they were "prolific".

Any coaching candidates under the Air Coryell/ Zampese system?

I just wonder how much of Jones’ hesitation to rid Garrett is due to staring straight at a personnel rebuild because the new coach will want to get change this and that.

I’m not sold on a Garrett not having playcalling control, either.

The playbook from Week 1-3 was completely different from most other weeks. You can’t attribute that radical of a change to week-to-week opponents adjusting.

Well he wasn't technically calling the plays but you could see Garrett's fingerprints all over the gameplan

At this point the systems are more about jargon than offensive philosophy. You can design any offense out of the 3 major systems, it's just how the plays, positions and formations are named/numbered/described that varies.

You can't ignore that the PA passes went down after week 3.
