this would have been made part of the original contract, Jerry has no leverage to force Garrett to sign anything at this point.

Perhaps if the non-disclosure agreement likely part of the original contract wasn't to Jerrys liking as of today then all he can do is ask nicely or money whip Garrett to sign or if you really believe Garrett is capable of playing hardball, then he could use this to get an extension

given their relationship, I doubt this would ever be an issue regardless of any agreements that may or may not exist
Yeah, I’m thinking most likely it’s Garrett presenting his 10-point plan on next year’s success if he were to remain HC

An interview, so to speak.

With their history, I don’t think Jerruh wouldn’t give Garrett the chance to debrief this season while presenting a ‘what if’ for next season.

In addition to his own 10-point plan, I’m sure Garrett is saying that any newcomer would have to have at least a 20-point plan, persuading Jerruh to think that it’s a longer shot of success with more things that have to go right. I mean, he’d stroke Jerruh’s ego and say the roster is optimal whereas a new HC would want two years minimum to remake the roster, potentially flying in the face of what GM Jerruh has already done.

Yup.

It's way too much work for the little publicity and attention that it is generating.

And if he cares so much about Garrett, as those pushing the "He's giving him time out of respect" angle are suggesting, then why drag him through this and make him suffer slowly just for a few min of camera time?

No, if they are having multiple discussions over the course of the week, then it can only mean that they are either trying to convince him to take a front office position that he's reluctant to take or he is gradually selling the Jones' on the idea of him coming back as HC.

Something is amiss. It just has the feel that something unexpected occurred and now they're stalling for time. Would they really have any trouble convincing Garrett to accept a FO position?

Stalling for what? His contract to expire?

But this just doesn't seem to fit that criteria.

Because do you know what would generate far more publicity and headlines and media coverage?

Interviews being scheduled, candidates being named, etc.

Imagine if the Cowboys schedule an interview with Lincoln Riley or Urban Meyer? It would be the top story on every sports media outlet.

So while I'm totally familiar with Jerry's desire to bring attention to himself and the Cowboys, I don't think that's the case here because it's not worth all this trouble to generate the little NATIONAL media attention that it is receiving. And when you couple that with his feelings for Garrett, I can't see him drawing this out for nothing more than just a few extra minutes of coverage.

I think there are discussions to bring him back in some capacity with the worst case scenario being that he remain the HC with wholesale changes all around him.
This is exactly correct, imo. Publicity is good, but anybody would take good publicity over bad publicity.

There’s a ton of good publicity just sitting there for Jerry to capitalize on, instead he’s allowing the bad or negative publicity to fester, ask yourself why?

There’s a reason why there hasn’t been an announcement on Garrett’s status as far as coaching this team beyond 2019, and I think it might just be because they haven’t decided if they can bring him back yet and weather the storm, with the fan base, media, and locker room.

I don’t think they’re stalling. Like an attorney presenting a case over the course of a couple days, Garrett’s presenting his case every day.

Jerruh liked what he heard the first day, allowing Garrett a second day to present his case...Day Two was the same.

You’re not at a place for 12 years and then able to wrap up your thoughts in one hour.

if Jerruh already has the replacement HC finalized, there’s no need to cut off his boy Garrett. Give Garrett the ‘respect’ to present everything he wants.

I don't know but I doubt it would be for that.
With Jerry nothing would surprise me. Ultimately I think Garrett is trying to weassel his way into keeping the job and Jerry is procrastinating breaking up with him. When I've got something at work that I really don't want to do I have a tendency to put it off until I have to do it. Doesn't mean I'm not going to do it, or know that I'm going to do it. It's just something that I don't want to do so I shuffle it down the stack of things to do.

As much as we all will take pleasure in Garrett being fired I don't think Jerry does. It's why the easier thing for Jerry to do is just let the contract run.

I mean if he was keeping Garrett, we would see a new contract. If he was moving to the front office why wait on that either?
Hopefully the extension will get wrapped up at the conclusion of tomorrow's meeting so we can all go on with our lives.

He got his Landry.

If that is indeed the case, it is unsettling to think his resolve could be weakened so easily.

I know you're joking but if we were going to extend him don't you think we would have heard something about it by now? I meam the mans contract is going to be up in a couple weeks.

Although if Jerry was being a dick and really thought Garrett had the ability to be a good coach for someone else he could hold on to him for a couple weeks while jobs dry up.

The only thing that bothers me in all this is that as I have said many times, Jones is loyal to a fault. He has made a lot of mistakes over being loyal. I certainly hope this isn’t another.

I can’t take another year of the Red Pubic headed bitch. I’m not sure whats going on. I hope Jerry isn’t giving him another year contract and firing all assistant coaches as another scapegoat. If so I’m done watching these morons. I won’t even root for another team I just gonna be done watching football. Fuck those losers.

Likewise, if it was such a certainty that a guy with an expiring contract was being allowed to move on don't you think THAT would have been made known by now?

I could get on board with Jerry dragging it out for attention if there hadn't been multiple meetings having taken place already with yet another scheduled for tomorrow.

IMO, you don't go through all that unless you're considering bringing him back.

I don't believe that his departure is the sure thing that some of you think it is.

Sounds good in theory. But just look how much coverage he’s getting right now with everyone wondering what’s going on.
