Meaning Daks contract issue isn’t whether he will be signed but for how much. That doesn’t seem apparent with Garrett.
Just means that they dont do in season contracts whether it be Dak, Lawrence last year, Cooper, or Garrett. They dont do it. Im not saying that he is definitely going to be resigned. Just that its a possibility and that is all any of us know.

I understand and we all have our opinions. I personally think that Garrett will not be extended.

In the end I dont think so either. Its just this delay that lets doubt creep in.

How many times does this have to be said? I know I've said it myself at least a half dozen times. Jerry is an attention whore. He loves dragging things out for the attention. He likes announcing things when no other team does. It's what he does. It's what he has done in the past. It's what he's always done. It's what he'll always do.
But this just doesn't seem to fit that criteria.

Because do you know what would generate far more publicity and headlines and media coverage?

Interviews being scheduled, candidates being named, etc.

Imagine if the Cowboys schedule an interview with Lincoln Riley or Urban Meyer? It would be the top story on every sports media outlet.

So while I'm totally familiar with Jerry's desire to bring attention to himself and the Cowboys, I don't think that's the case here because it's not worth all this trouble to generate the little NATIONAL media attention that it is receiving. And when you couple that with his feelings for Garrett, I can't see him drawing this out for nothing more than just a few extra minutes of coverage.

I think there are discussions to bring him back in some capacity with the worst case scenario being that he remain the HC with wholesale changes all around him.

The non-disclosure agreement.

Garrett could make millions writing a behind-the-scenes book.

Who cares about Zeke-banging-her-and-her. This would be the first book about Jerruh and the family.
Now that is the first legitimate reason outside of him returning to the organization that I can get behind.

I never considered that, but I can see that being a plausible scenario.

At first, I thought they were milking it for publicity but this would be overindulgent even for JJ. I'm starting to worry that whoever they've reached out to for interviews have declined or given a lukewarm response to working in big D under the current organizational structure.
I should've read your post first that way I could reference it before I basically made the same point -- but I agree completely.

It does seem like there's too much here for it to just to simply be another case of "Jerry just wants attention", doesn't it?

Yeah, once Monday came and went there has been very little on Jones, the Cowboys, or Garrett. ESPN and NFL Network have had almost nothing on any of them. NFL Network has talked nonstop about the Redskins and Their new hires.
And if Jones really believes he’s going to dominate the news with LSU/Clemson heating up and everyone talking about that game he’s smoking some good crack.

Yes. I know some of you are panicking, but nothing has changed.
Ok then, humor me.

Why do you suppose that this is being drawn out this way?

Your best guess.

And why would there not be contract talks now if we were keeping him.

I still wouldn't be surprised if Jerry just lets his contract expire never actually firing him.

I agree with everything you are saying. But this just seems different from simple attention-whoring.

I agree. He's waited so long now, it's almost anticlimactic.

Shit it hasn't even been a week. Dude wasn't going to announce it on New Years day.
Most of the casual fans I know have become disinterested. If he wanted to announce it at the peak, he missed it.

The non-disclosure agreement.
this would have been made part of the original contract, Jerry has no leverage to force Garrett to sign anything at this point.

Perhaps if the non-disclosure agreement likely part of the original contract wasn't to Jerrys liking as of today then all he can do is ask nicely or money whip Garrett to sign or if you really believe Garrett is capable of playing hardball, then he could use this to get an extension

given their relationship, I doubt this would ever be an issue regardless of any agreements that may or may not exist

I think the original post had issues which were repeated in every post that quoted this post

I know I had to edit the shit out of my reply to get rid of all the junk

Yup.

It's way too much work for the little publicity and attention that it is generating.

And if he cares so much about Garrett, as those pushing the "He's giving him time out of respect" angle are suggesting, then why drag him through this and make him suffer slowly just for a few min of camera time?

No, if they are having multiple discussions over the course of the week, then it can only mean that they are either trying to convince him to take a front office position that he's reluctant to take or he is gradually selling the Jones' on the idea of him coming back as HC.
