You have proof he DOESN'T exist?

Just curious.

Remember, common sense once said the world was flat.
Proof schmoof. I have FAITH and that's good enough![/christians]

I'm not going any further with this. It's a silly cyclical argument with two sides that are both convinced that the other is wrong. Actually that isn't telling the entire story. Christians are convinced that every human being who has ever been and will ever be is wrong...unless they're Christian. Anyway, the point is that religion is purely a belief system and can't be proven so to present it as fact is, well...{biting tongue, walking away}.

The point in this thread is that someone is presenting his belief as fact when he has no more evidence of it than we do. There is simply no evidence that a God does not exist.

There might be evidence that the world wasn't created in 7 days, but most people agree that's allegory. And if he's arguing the small minority of Christian literalists are dumb, well, that's the definition of a red herring.

Ironic that this comes from a grown man who believes, among other things, that "the devil" is real and rules the fiery underworld.
:lol

Man I used to take it personally for some reason when people believed in these fairy tales. I just wanted to shake them.

But I've mellowed on that. Whatever makes you happy. Just don't put it in my face if I tell you I'm not interested.

My boss is currently trying to get with me on personal time to talk about Jesus. I told him I'd love to have the conversation with him if he didn't go into it expecting to convert me.

My point was, nobody knows for a fact. So why do people feel the need to belittle and talk down on other's beliefs? Especially something people hold sacred. Not quite like poking fun at somebody that has tattoos. Or the way they dress. Or whatever.

You'll be back.

Athiests and their pompous superiority gene won't let them stay away for long. :art

You gotta admit though, both sides are a bit pompous. I mean you just admitted that the only proof you needed was faith (And I'm cool with that) but yet us non-believers are somehow pompous because we don't share that faith? We have faith in science. Now, maybe we'll find out one day that particular faith is wrong, but for now it basically is our faith and we're "pompous" because of it. It works both ways.

Love you.

Mean it.

Be gentle.

Bye.

My stance for a long time has been that nobody knows one way or the other. The Christians and Atheists bother me equally as much with their matter of fact positions. You don't know for a fact God exists any more than the Atheists know for a fact he doesn't. There is no proof either way. You may have faith he exists, and that's cool. That's definitely your prerogative, but you can't know for a fact.

No, never intended to mean athiests are pompous because of what they believe or do not believe. Only that it is the RARE atheist that doesn't feel the need to belittle people about their beliefs. Talking about the "fairy tales" they believe in. The "man in the sky" they believe in. Comparing their beliefs to that of a child. Etc... That is where I'd consider them pompous.

Well, I'm definitely guilty of calling religion a "fairy tale", I can't deny that. It's what I believe and yeah, I've been a dick about it before.

But for the record, I'm no Atheist. I believe in something. I just don't think it's a guy "in the sky" watching everything we do while letting innocent kids die of AIDS or cancer or getting raped or whatever.

I like how all Christians are white people from America in Superpunk's mind.

Anyone that does anything he doesn't agree with are white from America. He has some serious white guilt about him.

I really hope there is something after this life. I don't think it will be anything like in any major religion with a book.

I just really bugs me to think that some scumbags, like Jerry Jones for instance, will be allowed to get away with doing anything in this world without consequences in the next.

Penn is a very smart guy, very honest, much respect.
For you:

http://www.npr.org/2005/11/21/5015557/there-is-no-god

I believe that there is no God. I'm beyond atheism. Atheism is not believing in God. Not believing in God is easy — you can't prove a negative, so there's no work to do. You can't prove that there isn't an elephant inside the trunk of my car. You sure? How about now? Maybe he was just hiding before. Check again. Did I mention that my personal heartfelt definition of the word "elephant" includes mystery, order, goodness, love and a spare tire?

So, anyone with a love for truth outside of herself has to start with no belief in God and then look for evidence of God. She needs to search for some objective evidence of a supernatural power. All the people I write e-mails to often are still stuck at this searching stage. The atheism part is easy.

Fuck no. Did you even read that? Do you understand things like logic and burden of proof? Is the lack of belief in trunk elephants a belief system? Jesus Herbert Christ.
