What are we even doing?

I pay attention every year until the point in which it becomes obvious that we aren't going to have the right combination of incredible luck to make it further than we've made it in almost 30 years. This year that point was a lot earlier than the last few years. I was as negative as I ever have been after free agency and the comically late signings of Lamb and Dak.

I no longer waste my time staying up for late games. I'll just read about it in the morning. If we win, I'll watch the game, if not, I don't bother.

There's literally nothing that can fix what's broken, other than luck. Hiring the right coach, getting a favorable schedule, drafting exactly the right people to fill the holes every year, significant injuries kept to a minimum, and the thousand other variables that have to go right to get this team beyond one playoff win. The amount of luck needed to get to or win a Super Bowl isn't even worth considering.

The dysfunction is so endemic that it just doesn't matter.

Spot on. No way I was staying up to watch that Steelers game.

Was pleasantly surprised when I found out they won the next morning.

I don't think I could ever do that. If it comes to that I will just stop watching.
Eh, it just doesn’t matter to me anymore.

Thank God I can fall back on the Yankees, America's lovable underdogs.
Yep, this time of year I’m waiting on UNC basketball, watching WVU football and Alabama football and waiting for the holidays to be with my family. The Cowboys are very very distant last. It used to not be that way, but it just is what it is now.

The Yankees have won more world series just since the Mets last won (almost 40 years ago by the way) than the Mets have ever won.
Jerry really did a number on you to miss what I was doing.

I will tell you boys this.

I used to plan my life around what this dumbass organization did. Vacations on bye weekends when possible.

But not anymore. I could miss an entire game and not give a shit.
Same. I’ll watch if I have nothing better to do.

Oh totally.

My Sundays were completely off limits for anything else.

It's funny when I look back at how much life revolved around them and how little it all matters now.
