Now, think real hard to the last time you had an owner decry a player for being the top paid player and not elevating performance? For a business man pretending like if you pay someone more they will perform better logically makes no sense. Just because Dak is the highest paid isn't going to suddenly make him the best player in the NFL.
Speaking of that, and not necessarily on the topic of the Cowboys sucking so far this year, but how many of you re-think spending so much time on this team, even including this board? To answer Simp, it’s laziness and failure to find a different interest. I really should go do something better like play an instrument or fishing/hunting, but NFL is inexpensive, couch potato entertainment.
I definitely debate it but ultimately I still have too much free time and enjoy talking football too much to completely leave.Speaking of that, and not necessarily on the topic of the Cowboys sucking so far this year, but how many of you re-think spending so much time on this team, even including this board?
I find myself doing that. Not that I'm going to stop wasting time typing posts like this, but I find myself more and more thinking I should be doing more productive things. I'm about the same age as a lot of us here and getting older is part of it, but it's not just that.
Just wondering how many others think that more and more. Obviously it's easier when the team craps out, but I mean beyond that.
Good, I'm glad. You're younger than the guys I was thinking of anyway, and a part of this is age. I do still love football, and hope that never changes.I definitely debate it but ultimately I still have too much free time and enjoy talking football too much to completely leave.
I don't know if it's necessarily about opening up a bunch of cap space moving forward, but I think their idea was to shed salary or not take on much veteran salary (Tyron, Biadasz, Armstrong, Gilmore, Gallup, etc.) and use this year to get young rookie-contract players (Guyton, Beebe, Kneeland, Tolbert, Brooks, etc.) acclimated to the NFL so that you could speed up their learning curve and hopefully be in a position a year or two down the road where you have developed several starters on rookie deals that will allow you to pay guys like Dak, Lamb and Parsons.Back to simp's OP... Is there some plan here, even a misguided one? I haven't looked that deeply into our cap, but some have claimed that there's some cap to be cleared by punting on this year.. Is there any truth to that?
I don't see why it would be true and think it's just being cheap and all the other things we've talked about, but maybe I'm missing something.
On the team? I've already scaled back.Speaking of that, and not necessarily on the topic of the Cowboys sucking so far this year, but how many of you re-think spending so much time on this team, even including this board?

Posting here is also somewhat intertwined with the reason we root for the team, giving up on the Cowboys completely would be like giving up on our past to an extent and I think the board is a piece of that. Even the most cynical person here would be glued to the screen if we made the NFCC next year, so while I think different people pull back and disassociate themselves to varying degrees, I think there's always a piece of it that'll be there.Good, I'm glad. You're younger than the guys I was thinking of anyway, and a part of this is age. I do still love football, and hope that never changes.
And I'm not going to stop, either. If I don't have anything better to do on Sundays, I'm definitely going to watch. Just maybe put more attention on other things during the week.
Great, good answer.I don't know if it's necessarily about opening up a bunch of cap space moving forward, but I think their idea was to shed salary or not take on much veteran salary (Tyron, Biadasz, Armstrong, Gilmore, Gallup, etc.) and use this year to get young rookie-contract players (Guyton, Beebe, Kneeland, Tolbert, Brooks, etc.) acclimated to the NFL so that you could speed up their learning curve and hopefully be in a position a year or two down the road where you have developed several starters on rookie deals that will allow you to pay guys like Dak, Lamb and Parsons.
I think they knew doing that would make them less competitive this year, but I'm sure they still expected to be around a 10 win team, and they still might be. But I think the idea was to pull back in 2024 with an eye on developing the roster for 2025 and beyond, while not locking in multi-year deals aside from Dak/Lamb/Parsons that will impact the next HC.
It's insane but I'd be shocked if it wasn't part of their thought process.
Yea, and if I'm being honest I wouldn't have much of an issue with the strategy if they had shown they were willing to make a significant move here or there in FA.Great, good answer.
But it's really about just spending less and not actually getting out from under some cap problem. Of course paying several free agents this year with ballooning contracts would make it harder in the future, I don't mean that. But more that young players on rookie contracts are (obviously) cheaper the next few years.
Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to get people to post here less.As for my activity on this board? I guess that'll depend on how much my interest in football as a whole dwindles although I enjoy talking about other random stuff with this group as much as I do Cowboys related stuff.... It's just that the Cowboys activity is far more frequent than the other topics.

You’re just one step away. @ravidubey ’s favorite band, featuring the world’s heaviest bass player. FREE REIGN!!!!!!!Now I just need to find a band that practices on Sunday.

TBH, I think I have wasted a lot of time on this team. I come to this board for the guys that are here.Speaking of that, and not necessarily on the topic of the Cowboys sucking so far this year, but how many of you re-think spending so much time on this team, even including this board?

Yeah I don't view coming on here as a waste of time. It's more just a way to chat with people to pass the time.TBH, I think I have wasted a lot of time on this team. I come to this board for the guys that are here.
Totally. I was here during the later Garrett years just because you mofos are all right. Definitely not for the football team.TBH, I think I have wasted a lot of time on this team. I come to this board for the guys that are here.
I'm not saying coming to this board is a waste of time. I'm saying I have invested too much fucking energy in this god damn team.Yeah I don't view coming on here as a waste of time. It's more just a way to chat with people to pass the time.
Now prepping all morning for a game or getting upset after a loss. Those are wastes of my time. I no longer spend my entire Sundays on the NFL. I'll watch a game but that's about it.
i’ve been playing guitar for 40 years, and you are 100 percent correct about youtube. It makes it so much easier to see how things are played. Couldve used that a lot back in the 80s when I was trying to slow down a vinyl or cassette to hear a guitar part. Brutal.I started playing guitar again and can honestly say I'm better now than I was in my 20's. It's a shame we didn't have Youtube back then because it accelerates your learning curve significantly if you know what to practice. Now I just need to find a band that practices on Sunday.
