Zack Martin Retires

I was in favor of this very thing last summer with CD and Micah going forward. Get your money. Fuck the Jones.

Even with Joe Looney that was a damn good line.
 


He is dead on about that team. That was pretty much the best shot we have had in the past 30 years.
 
Meh, I don't think it was as good as the 2007 or 2016 teams.

The 2014 secondary was arguably worse.

At least in 2016 you had Byron Jones and Anthony Brown back there, in 2014 they were starting Sterling Moore in the slot.
 
The 2016 defense was 5th in PPG allowed. The 2014 team was 15th.

About the only thing I give to the 2014 team was an experienced Romo vs a rookie Dak.

Yep, and we were one bad call from having a match-up against a team we had already beaten on the road earlier in the season for the championship.
 
I don’t understand why a retiring player should count against the cap. I guess there’s the ability for manipulation of the cap if retiring can wipe away the cap hit, but, seems unfair.

I agree, especially because I do think a team has a right to recoup that money but never does as sort of "the right thing to do". So why should they be punished under the cap.

Other than the NFL probably looks at it and figures, the purpose of the cap is to not give players too much of our revenue. So why open the door to give them more revenue.

That would wreck the cap. Teams that continually push money into the future would have no consequences for doing so.

No but if a player signs a 3 year deal with a 50 million signing bonus and then retires after year one, it seems a little unfair that he gets to keep the whole bonus.

And screw fair. I still remember the NFL punishing us for Mile Austin's contract during the uncapped year. They just make the rules up whenever they feel like it.
