This was exactly the way I didn't want to lose. Some hope given by the defense only to be shattered by the offense not being able to find their dick with a magnifying glass.

I don't really see how that made a difference. They had one TO left when they took over the ball, and when we got the sack, they didn't use it then. They didn't use their TO until they were down in FG range. If every thing was the same and they didn't have the TO, they would have just spiked the ball and kicked the FG then. After the long gain they tried a long pass which was incomplete. Then kicked the FG.
