The Immigration/Deportation/ICE Thread

Rights SHOULD be prioritized over public safety.

Bad takeaway here.
If you're illegal here you have no rights in this country. And he was obviously illegal or else why did he have to avoid deportation?

Actual rights, yes, but it shouldn't be a right to not be deported.

And I almost got stamped. There's a deep ball to left and I don't know if I'll be behind this keyboard again.

Maybe I need more coffee because you're confusing the hell out of me right now.

The tweet said, "This is what happens when countries prioritize “rights” over public safety..."

That is a fundamentally flawed argument.

Rights come first and should be protected at all costs, even above public safety (with very very few exceptions).

Illegal immigration is not a rights issue. Someone here illegally doesn't have those rights. It's simply two different conversations but I think the X post is conflating the two.

I think that's why he put "rights" in quotes... right?

I think what is confusing things is I think the OP was being facetious when he typed "rights" as in he doesn't have "rights" because he is here illegally. I hope that clears things up because my next plan of action is to bust out some Stephen Jones air quotes and no one wants that.

The Dems flipflopped on immigration just as soon as they realized they were starting to lose the black vote.
