How about a cop that shoved someone away from a potential fight to keep things from escalating? Is that assault?

He was exercising freedom of speech in a way you don't agree with. There is literally no law against asking people questions in public. Asking Questions In a Volatile Situation is not a crime in any State.

Cops are there to enforce the laws, not make them up on the fly because "the situation demands it".

Cops can be cops. Cops however can't violate individuals rights in the process however which is what they did there. No point in really talking about it much further though. You've already explained that you would personally be willing to give up some of your rights and freedoms to feel a little safer. I personally disagree. I don't think punishing innocent people out of fear is justifiable.

Yes. Because a "potential fight" is purely imaginary. Anything can be a "potential fight" so any cop can hit anyone at any time for any "potential" reason. That's ridiculous.

Escalating situation. You just don't think cops should have levity to not let that situation get to a boiling point before they do something. I'm perfectly fine with them not letting it get more dangerous.

They didn't arrest him, so I don't see how what they did was "enforcing the law". Maybe they were just keeping people safe. I know you don't feel like cops ever do that, but you are absolutely wrong in that opinion. You just have a bad taste in your mouth about cops.

There is a huge difference between a "potential fight" and Israeli and Palestinian protesters across the street from each other in a time where they are at mass war with each other. If you can't see the difference, then go about your cop hating ways like you know better.

I don't believe cops should be pushing people around and threatening to put them in cuffs when they haven't committed a crime and aren't under any suspicion of committing a crime. He wasn't even close to committing a crime. Cops shouldn't be allowed to walk around being bullies which for some reason you seem to be ok with.

Then what they were doing was outside of their job description and authority. They are called Law Enforcement for a reason. Their job isn't to exercise blanket authority to order people around just because they want to be in charge of the situation.

I damn sure okay with it when there is a volatile situation. Israel/Palestine is pretty volatile right now. You seem to keep ignoring that fact and reverting to the injustice of it all, instead.
