The Great Police Work Thread

It's one thing to be racist, it's another to recognize a high crime area and population that happens to be black. 52% of the murders in the US according to the Department of Justice are committed by black people. Push those statistics a little further and you see they are committed by a small minority of black people: young gang members in inner city ghettos. They are less than one percent of the population yet responsible for half of the murders, statistically. Look at the statistics of the percentage of other violent crimes committed by that demographic and you are left with a scientifically undeniable conclusion. They are statistically over 100 times as violent as the average US citizen.

If you look at overall crime statistics, cops don't have a lot to be afraid of. Put those same cops in a heated environment in an inner city ghetto and the likelihood that they are facing deadly force, vs. for instance a routine traffic stop, skyrockets.

It's like the difference between being in the military on a base in the US vs deployed to Afghanistan.

A big part of me feels that if you aren't walking down the middle of the fucking street like a fool then none of this happens.

I personally can't stand these tards who walk in the fucking street when there is a perfectly good sidewalk 6 feet away and the ones who see cars coming but can't be bothered to pick up their fucking pace to get the fuck across the street for whatever reason.

Strange how this would have applied just as well to the Tony Stewart thread. :unsure

But why are the police clothed and armed as though they are in Iraq as opposed to Missouri? (is this really how you spell this state?) Out of control.

I had read an article awhile back that they go with the camo as opposed to black or regular police uniforms for the intimidation factor

Talk about being right in my back yard. The fact of the matter is the area where the officer was working is an area where no experienced officer wants to work because of the inherit risk. So what happens is you get inexperienced young officers who panic at the sign of trouble. I suspect that it was excessive force in this case but I certainly wouldn't say the man who got shot was totally innocent either. It's interesting because if you look at a similar scenario that is made of two civilians you'd see a man charged with murder. It this situation however the officer will never have such charges brought against him.

I hate being on the side of the cop in this case but the facts warrant being on his side. He was in a terrible position and fought his way out and killed a LEGAL ADULT. Not a "teen" as in "we're lying to make an adult sound like a child". An 18 year old is as much a grown ass man in charge of his own actions as the rest of us and somehow we don't attack cops and try to take their guns.

CRock is technically correct in his last point but a civilian like me can choose never to go to a crack neighborhood, like I do. Being a cop, as stupid as the job often is, involves being shoved into harms way and being forced to deal with it.

Apparently they've released surveillance footage of the teen-who-was-about-to-attend-college stealing cigars and roughing up a liquor store clerk. So his supporters claim the police released the footage to smear him and responded by looting and trashing that store.

It's like you aren't even trying.

Yeah, it happened not long before the encounter with the cop.

Yea, I am going to steal this post and adopt it as my position on the subject.

Some did. A lot of them were trying to stop the looting

For example:

protecting? Huh? Looks more like protesting. Protecting doesn't normally involve chanting pithy insults to the police. Unless it is your contention that the police are rioting and the people in the streets are putting it down.

They were standing in front of it to block the looters

Question about police tactics. Aren't riot officers supposed to have full "prison" style armor, big plastic shields, and batons?

Why exactly are they sending in camo and m-16s?

So let me get this straight, are you saying the teen deserved to be shot because he stole from the store?

And by the way the officer who shot him had no idea what happened at the store.

I figured somebody would jump in with that conclusion. But no, I am not saying that. What I am saying is that perhaps he wasn't the shy, non-confrontational trying-to-get-out-of-the-ghetto archetype that mom and dad have portrayed and that the media has run with.

I'm also saying don't expect me to put his picture on a t-shirt and march around. A point about police brutality can be made without lionizing some street thug. It reminds me of the Gary Graham bullshit back in the day.
