The Great Amigo Thread...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it 91 when Beuerlein stepped in for Aikman and got us to the playoffs, and then we put Aikman back in against the Lions and got our asses kicked? I mean, I'm no historian so maybe I'm mixed up here

Correct. And, Beuerlein started that Lions game, too. Aikman came in later in the game. Aikman didn't get hurt in the 1992 season.

OMG the pressure has gotten to him, he's starting to crack... This will not end well, I can see a mexican stand-off between Hos, National Guard and the Rangers... ~cue Blaze of Glory as background music~

Beuerlein closed out the year, then went into Chicago for the wild card game and won that too.

Jimmy Johnson played hot-hand Beuerlein over franchise QB Aikman

Colts coach Chuck Pagano says it’s “ridiculous” to think he could play Matt Hasselbeck over a healthy Andrew Luck. But while it might be ridiculous, a move like that wouldn’t be unprecedented.

In fact, a Super Bowl-winning coach once sat his future Hall of Famer franchise quarterback on the bench and chose instead to start a journeyman who happened to be playing well at the time.

The coach was Jimmy Johnson, the future Hall of Famer was Troy Aikman, and the journeyman backup was Steve Beuerlein. With the Cowboys at 6-5 and fighting for a playoff spot in 1991, Aikman was knocked out of a game and replaced by Beuerlein, who led the Cowboys to a victory to improve them to 7-5. Beuerlein then started the final four games of the season, the Cowboys won all four and finished 11-5.

By the time the playoffs rolled around, Aikman was fully healthy, and Johnson had a choice to make: Go back to his former No. 1 draft pick and future franchise quarterback? Or stick with the backup who had gone 4-0 as a starter? Johnson chose to stay with Beuerlein for the Cowboys’ wild-card game, a win over the Bears.

Yes, although not many people talk about it when discussing the Cowboys’ dynasty of the 1990s, their first playoff win of the decade came with Beuerlein, not Aikman, under center.

The next week Johnson again started Beuerlein, but this time it didn’t go as well: The Cowboys were blown out by the Lions, and Johnson pulled Beuerlein during the game for Aikman. The following season Aikman was the starter from Day One, and the Cowboys won the first of their three Super Bowls with Aikman at the helm.

No one doubted in 1991 that Aikman was the future of the Cowboys, just as no one doubts now that Luck is the future of the Colts. But Johnson felt like he had to stick with the quarterback who had guided his team to a 4-0 record. Pagano doesn’t see it that way.

I believe Garrett does this and will continue to. I know I'm in the minority in that line of thinking. But I do believe we have the right coach in place. I know without a doubt Garret would be hired in an instant if we gave up on him. He's that widely regarded around the league.

I'm curious as to how you know this.

Who are you talking to around the league?

Most of my good contacts are scouts but the few that aren't scoff at the idea that Garrett is highly regarded. If he were let go, he'd either have to take a QB coach job or drop into the college ranks. People think he's a great guy who refuses to adapt to the times.

@Angus12 and @Stanley Spadowski

You don't think Garrett would be hired in one form or another by another NFL team if we moved on? He was the first choice in BAL before they went to Harbaugh.

I believe he'd be hired by a number of teams in some form or another.

When you hear the media bash the Cowboys it's almost always Jerry's fault because he's supposedly a meddling owner.

I'm curious how you guys have come to that conclusion.

I talk to a few people involved with other teams, but mostly those Cowboys related. Never heard anyone pan him other than fans or media. My contact with our Scouts loves the guy and enjoys working with him.

I think every opinion, good or bad, has to be taken at face value. I have little doubt he'd be hired quickly.

Not sure what it is we aren't adapting to. Injuries have sunk this season, not schemes.
Angus12 said:
Oh, I wouldn't doubt he'd get a QB coach job. Maybe even an OC job for a team like Cleveland. Do I think he'd be hired as a HC? Nope. At least not until he reinvented himself as an assistant.

As for the Baltimore job... Ancient history. He was still an unknown at the time, and teams were willing to take a chance on potential. Just like they do every time a first time HC is hired. But he has a history out there for teams to look at now. And that history is mediocre. He's had too much talent at his disposal for such a dismal career record..

But I am still curious. How do you "know without a doubt that he'd be hired in an instant." Or how he's "that widely regarded around the league". How do you come to that conclusion, besides Baltimore being interested in him quite awhile ago?

KalEl said:
Does it even matter? You disagree anyway.

Angus12 said:
Seriously?

You ask me to explain my reasoning, so I do. Even though from your original statement, I knew you were going to disagree.

I ask you to explain how you came to the conclusion of "knowing"... ~crickets~
KalEl said:
I've come to that conclusion from what I've heard, read, and what several people who are credible sources say.

I would love to see a link where you've read anything even remotely hinting that Garrett would be "hired in an instant", if he were to become available. At least, a link that isn't five years old anyway.

I search out Cowboys news every day. And I've never seen anything like that.

Angus12 said:
I have no idea if there is a link out there saying that or not. You know why? Because I never stated it like it was some absolute truth. I stated it as MY opinion. Never once did I say anything even remotely close to "I KNOW without a doubt". Like you did.

Still waiting on that link...
This is where KalEl decided he was done and stopped replying.

But then, the big fella chimed in, to the delight of the crowd.

You all know how I feel on this, but I have to say I agree with KalEl on this. Not that Jerry will be letting Jason Garrett go, so this excercise is a Fool's Folly. But just for arguments sake, let's say he does end up on the open market. He'd be snapped up so fast it would make your head spin. Not guessing.

There is no doubt in my mind that Garrett will be our Head Coach for AT LEAST the remainder of this contract. And we'll be winning Super Bowls. Notice I said Super Bowl"S". Plural. As in more than one. Let the haters and those over at the cesspool think what they want. We know what's being built here.

KalEl said:
Thanks, Hos. Appreciate the support. And I totally agree. Superbowls are in our near future.

Hostile is 'Not guessing' that Garrett would be 'snapped up so fast it would make your head spin'. Meaning he 'knows', which would mean someone of real significance inside an NFL organization would have had to have specifically said that to him---a fat, delusional front office wanna be Internet numbnuts nobody.

We know what's being built here.

I would seriously like to strangle this motherfucker.

He is a pathetic loser who has painted an unrealistic picture of himself on the Internet because he can easily impress the mindless, drooling retards who lap up his bullshit. Not guessing.

His efforts took him to a corner so deep he can't let any differing in opinions at all. Very damning in itself.

Hos is definitely an ass burger.

Where does 'not guessing' fall on the Scale of Adrian Peterson's Arrival - 90%? 85%?

One would have to assume 90%+.

It will be a fine day when Garrett is shit canned and ends up crawling back to Princeton to coach.

It would be great just to get rid of Garrett, him having to accept some subpar gig would be icing on top to troll his cult with
