Stephen Jones' comments do nothing to change my mind at this point. I can tell you for a fact that there are people in discussion about this and what it will take. I repeat, it still doesn't mean it will. I say that enough maybe someone will remember it if he doesn't end up coming here.
So let me tell you what I do know since the thread. Way too many people think his contract in Minnesota is guaranteed. It is not. So, when they argue that he is not going to take a pay cut to come here, they are not applying logic. Theoretically he can make more money in Minnesota. The ONLY way he can is if he never gets cut by them. If he gets cut I believe they owe him $2.4 million this year, not the $nearly $13 million he would receive if he plays all year for them on that contract.
So you can rightfully suspect that part of Peterson's desire is to have more guaranteed money. In fact, I have heard that he has told them he will stay in Minnesota at his current contract if they guarantee to the remainder of it.
Uh, the Vikings are NOT going to do that. So the fact is that theoretically he could possibly make more money by leaving Minnesota if he gets a new deal with guaranteed money.
I don't want to trade draft picks for a veteran player either. I want to make this very clear. If we do not go acquire Adrian Peterson I am going to be absolutely 100% fine with it. Why can I say that given my campaign for him? Because I do like the new fiscal approach. I want him because I think we become unbeatable by adding him. As in the first team to go 19-0. Yeah, I said it. I mean it. Injuries would be the only thing I think could derail that.
So, I consider trading trading draft picks for this veteran player. You've heard me clearly say I would prefer a 2016 pick to any this year. I have no problem trading them some veterans back. Randle, Carr, and Bernadeau for AP. Do it! I'll dance a jig.
Ultimately I doubt that can happen. I believe it will come down to draft picks if we go get him.
I love how the VR guys are staunch and giving up nothing. But if you think this report means we do not want him, you're wrong. Some names you know and trust want him very badly.
