The Gardening Thread…

My wife told me about using epsom salt on the lawn a few weeks ago... that shit does work. She put it down in one section of the back yard and the patch went crazy growing and turning a deep green. WTF?
It's the magnesium. A lot of plants are deficient in that.

As are a lot of people. One of the most interesting things about gardening imo is learning how much people have in common with plants regarding health.

Semi-related, anyone into their lawn? I am, but again the last few years have been brutal for that. This year has been great, but it's probably only an average year for a lot of you.
We bought our house brand-new last year, and the builders put in some sod from wherever that has finally blended together but still looks like crap because they really didn't smooth out the dirt before laying down the sod, and patches of weeds coming in at random spots.

I have been watching these videos on the youtoobs about lawn leveling so I'm looking for a place to buy a truckload of sand because that's what I want to start with, then kill off the weeds, then hopefully in the fall or spring set up for slit-seeding.

What kind of grass do you have?

I do read all kinds of horror stories about new construction houses. Apparently a lot of contractors just bury their junk underground around the house, and not that deep, either.

I have a magnesium deficiency.

Oh, and I have had a garden probably 60 feet long and 40 feet wide for many years.

Actually I'm not even sure. I know it's a mixture of different types, though... I can tell just by looking at it.

There's a company here I keep hearing their commercial for on the radio called Agronomic Lawn Management, "We Grow, We Don't Mow" that I've been thinking about having coming out and learn me some shit.

It's probably cool season though, right? Aren't you too far north for Bermuda?

IIRC those are difficult from seeds. But where you live in NC they should do well from transplants. My dad says his dad always grew those in a barrel, and he only lived in Ft Worth.

I'm jealous of you guys who get so much rain. I need to move east some day.

Yeah my lawn has been really bad. Last few years had me wondering if I needed to get a sprinkler system. But this year so far has been great. My yard is finally looking alive at least. You get to a certain age and suddenly you start caring about how it looks.

I would be like 7b/8a
People typically seed their lawns there, right? If so, that's cool season, probably a fescue. Almost nobody seeds bermuda because it's hard to do. And that's kind of pushing the limits of bermuda there anyway, though some of the newer ones can do it.

You're in... Maryland? Or at least somewhere not too far from DC?
