Ever since the U.S. Social Security Administration opened its books to the Department of the Treasury’s Bureau of Fiscal Service, it has been able to stop and recover more than $31 million in improper federal payments to dead people.

At a Feb. 18 press briefing, Trump said that “we have millions and millions of people over 100 years old. Everybody knows that’s not so. We have a very corrupt country, very corrupt country, and it’s a sad thing to say, but we’re figuring it out. … If you take all those numbers off, because they’re obviously fraudulent or incompetent, but if you take all of those millions of people off of Social Security, all of a sudden we have a very powerful Social Security with people that are 80 and 70 and 90 but not 200.”


Trump also said the administration was looking into how many people actually got checks and said “maybe millions” of people were being fraudulently paid. “How many of them were getting paid Social Security, because if that’s the case, it’s a massive fraud. … I mean, maybe millions of them,” he said.

He said "maybe."

We don't know (that's the problem).

And neither does Irv or the AP "fact checkers."
 
And again - if you were at all intellectually honest, you'd welcome the investigation.

Even if they end up being wrong about how much they can save, at least they are trying.

$31M, over 5 months? That's much less than if several thousand people who were +100 years old but dead were collecting, so yes, Trump is a liar, something you cannot admit.

I welcome the investigation, I just can't stand when they falsify the numbers. Sort of like the "We gave $350B to Ukraine" when it is actually less than half that, which is still a lot, but he can't help himself from exaggerating.

The thing is, Irv, NONE of them tell the truth. We are all well aware of that. The reason we are happy is that we are finally seeing something get done about what we all knew was going to be the end of our country if it kept being ignored. All of the presidential candidates always SAY they are going to do something about all the wasteful spending, then they get in office and do fuckall about it. I know you can't give any credit to Trump, I get it, but at least acknowledge they are bring a light to some of the problems.
