The Artificial Intelligence Thread

Interesting interview.

Interesting interview.

That didn't help my fear of AI at all. :lol His solution to how you handle people losing their jobs is the same as Elon's. UBI. You can put a fancy adjective on it if you want, like high, to make it sound better, but it's still UBI. You will be subservient to the mega-wealthy 1% at that point no matter how you try to shape the system to prevent full control by that 1%. That 1% would control everything. Government, schools, media, agriculture, cattle, pharma. They would control every single means of human existence. We already have examples of this in how the current US government exacts control over the people on welfare. You will eventually eat what they provide for you to eat. I just hope we have enough time to get systems in place to somehow prevent that, but I just don't know what that solution is, if there even is one.

It's a scary thought. Part of people's motivation to live is to work and try to make their lives better. You remove that for 99% of the population what do you end up with? No goals, no aspirations, nothing to strive for. It's all just there given to you as a basic service. I'm worried people will lose all motivation.

Of course this is the extreme example. I'm not worried for myself but this is a world my children may live in someday. Currently 5 and 7, what will the world be like when they are 30-40 in the prime of their careers?

This is so accurate. :lol

Why does everyone (not here) seem to use ChatGPT?

I don't know. I stick to Grok and Google mostly. I have tried ChatGPT a couple of times but found out pretty quickly it was awful.
I thought it sucked, too.

It is the more readily available and branded one. It is like IE and Netscape was.
Readily available? Don't you just type any of them in?

The most talked about because it was first, I guess.

Officers are having AI write their probable cause statements here based entirely on their body cam video. The damn AI kept calling a witness the victim in a PC I got hired on the other day. It was a joke. And on top of that the prosecutors request for warrant in the case was clearly written by AI as well and asked for a ridiculously high bond based on a PC statement that it clearly couldn't comprehend.

Shit is getting out of hand. I've seen attorneys get disciplined for using AI to write their briefs and the AI will just make up a case for caselaw to make their argument strong.

Oh it's wrong all the time. And sometimes in pretty ridiculous ways.

What's odd is, as I use it more, it doesn't seem to improving. In some ways it seems worse. And the more I use it, the more it's clear that while it can pull up a lot of information in an incredibly short time, it's not really intelligent like a human. It's just a very slick imitation.

I got in an argument with it the other day. I had asked for stats on something and it said “tens of millions.” I asked it to be more specific and it said 17 million. I said that’s not “tens of millions,” and it started arguing with me just like this woman I used to live with when I was about 28. Halfway through I was like what the fuck am I doing? But it kept on, I finally I told Grok to go fuck himself in his digital ass.

I got into an argument with it a while back, after sitting through an intolerable session of that stupid show Outlander or whatever with my wife, I was like, “why does all media perpetrate the myth of the noble savage?”

It would not admit that it’s all fiction, it clearly has constraints to admit facts in the face of narrative contradiction.

That being said, I do think a lot of what AI can do is impressive. I don’t know based on what we if it’s as close to super intelligence as some people think, but I also don’t see any reason to believe that day isn’t coming.

Which AI was it?
