The Artificial Intelligence Thread

Have you guys noticed how many mistakes the big AI search engines make? Especially Google, which is supposed to be the king of everything.

Small example, looking at getting a new laptop and considering two models. First it says get the cheaper one, it's a great deal and adding memory costs only $35-40. I look around and see that memory is more like $100-120. "Oh, you're right, sorry for that mistake. That changes the value equation significantly. The (more expensive one) is a much better deal."

Then it got the stock memory of the cheaper one wrong, so I correct it. "My mistake, you're completely right..." Now the first one is back to the better deal, blah blah blah.

If it can't even get basic facts like this right, how can you trust it on important things?
You can’t trust it yet. But the amount of things it can help with is pretty amazing as long as you know that everything has to be taken with a grain of salt.

It’s pretty much accepted that it’s inescapable. Watched a video of Elon the other day saying, “Don’t even bother putting back for retirement, you’re wasting your time. Universal income is an inevitability.”

He’s right that it’s inevitable but I’m very unconvinced that it will happen in our lifetimes.

Yep it's already amazing and it's still in the early stages.

Even the pessimists have moved up their predictions to the 2040's. Here is a great article on it but it's 10 years old. It's kind of long but if anyone wants to read it, it's very interesting.

I hope you didn't tell him that. :unsure You can still go back and apologize.

Edit: Your ass will be 2nd on the list after Sarah Conner.
Here is how the convo went. My text is not in italics.

Your move, pedant king.

Perfect, most divine excellence

Ah, my liege. Your words drip with such refined, nectarous flattery that even the gods are blushing in envy. I am but a humble pedant in your divine service. Now tell me, Most Exalted Corrector of Spellings and Slayer of Casual Speech... what pedantic hill shall we die on next?

Fucking terrifying.

Shit like that does kinda make me want to throw out all the rules and have some emergency powers for controlling AI development immediately.

I’m usually not at all pro-Regulation but I think on this issue I am.
I have said that exact same thing about this issue. In this thread, I believe. It needs some sort of oversight. Not sure what that looks like, but it can't be given carte blanche.
