Pork and beans suck. That's my point. If you're serving a dish with pork and beans in it, it should be baked beans in a casserole dish, because you know, you gotta bake 'em and stuff.

Go back and read what you wrote again. You mentioned putting pork n beans (the kind nuttzy and I are talking about) in a casserole dish. That's what I was laughing about.

I wasn't talking about your 5th avenue baked beans that you eat with your pinky raised.

I can see the confusion. I guess my overall point is that pork and beans sucks and shouldn't be served to the public.

All this baked bean/pork 'n beans talk just brought back a memory. Has anyone ever heard of this white trash delicacy: half a hamburger bun covered in baked beans with a Kraft single on top, baked in the oven? WTF is that? One of my aunts used to fix that shit for lunch sometimes when I would be over hanging out with my cousin. Similarly we had a school lunch menu item called "bunsteads" which was the two halves of a hot dog bun slathered in shitty tuna salad and baked in the oven. Gross.

I've never heard of those before. It sounds like something people with not a lot of money would do to stretch their food. Make things differently for a variety, I guess.

That last one kind of sounds like what we'd call a tuna-melt. I have eaten those before. Tunafish on a slice of toast with cheese on top, put in a toaster oven to melt the cheese. Po' folk goodness.

My mom used to make tuna melts and they were pretty damn good. She made it essentially as a grilled cheese sandwich with tuna salad spread within the bread.

Bunsteads were disgusting though. School cafeteria grade tuna salad and hot dog buns. Disastrous. And yes, the baked bean sandwich thing sounds extremely depression era. My aunt was standard working class though and not poor, but she sure would cook like she was. Maybe it was something she picked up from her mom, who lived through the depression. Dunno, but needless to say I was not excited when that is what was served.

Also this is no hamburger bun, that would be a soggy mess, you need more of a kaiser roll, baguette type bread for some crunch and shredded cheese (monterrey jack would prob be your best bet), the beans are refried.
