The growth north through Cedar Park and Leander along 183 is crazy to me. It used to feel like you still had a ways to go from Seward Junction until you hit Austin. Now it's almost one big city. I joke that soon Killeen/Copperas Cove will be a suburb of Austin.

Yeah, that area is blowing up. Round Rock too. It is happening to the south in Hays County as well, in towns like Buda and Kyle. It should mean very good news to me when I sell my house because we are 15 minutes from downtown. Our estimated value has skyrocketed over the past few years. It is nice in theory but I am not planning selling for about 10 years when the house is paid off so right now all that rising property value is doing for me is jacking up my property taxes.

I know it is an unfair stereotype but this is how I envision downtown Lubbock:



I'm sure it is a fine university town, just not someplace I would ever care to go. I know it is consistently ranked as one of the most conservative places in the US and did not sell alcohol until like 2010 or something. Again, probably a fine place to live, just probably not for me.

We don't have cattle around Lubbock unless you go west to Amherst. Everything around Lubbock is farmland.

I started turning down water damage jobs in the Austin area because it is almost impossible to get to them. We will go for previous customers, friend, business referrals and big stuff. I just hate going to Austin now because I can't get around.

Well, coming from Austin, it would be quite a culture shock to say the least. IT's not bad, though. Very friendly people, which I'm spoiled to, and any time I go on the road it seems like people are rude as hell.

And, yes, we finally came of age when they made it legal to buy alcohol at a package store in the city limits. Before that you had to go out the "The Strip" outside of town. Place looked like a mini Las Vegas. :lol
 
I think some would be pleasantly surprised if they spent a few days in Lubbock with an open mind.

Maybe so, for a few days. I have never been there. Like I said, when I read that it is consistently ranked as one of the most conservative cities in the country I figure it probably wouldn't be a great match for me.

I have skewed opinions of it as well because pretty much everyone I have talked to about it are people that have relocated to Austin because they were not fond of Lubbock. Not exactly unbiased...

It's a to each his own thing, I was mostly just looking for an excuse to use that tumbleweed gif.

Thinking about it, Sea World San Antonio might be the furthest West I've ever been. That's weird, right?
