I received an offer from a large home building contractor in Houston for a PM position. My sister ran into the owner a month or so ago about advertising and he said he had no help down that way- white collar help I would assume. She told him there was no way I'd leave my company, but he said to give me the offer anyways.

Starting pay was 135K a year with truck and health insurance. Home building must be good down there.

The housing market is outstanding which is why we've had so many people from both the east and west coast relocate this way in recent years.

Hell, in just my area alone, 7 different subdivisions have been built in 4 years, and there's 3 more coming.

Little bastard deserves an ass kicking because that is a shitty thing to do, but I have to prop him for his execution. And style points for the cheesy dribbling in shades lead-in.

You can drive to the West side of Katy and see the sprawl growing in real time. It is kind of awe inspiring and terrifying at the same time
 
Austin has experienced crazy growth since I got here in 2000. Within the city it is less sprawl at this point and more knocking down existing shit and building new stuff. The skyline is radically different than it was in 2000 and some neighborhoods/streets are barely recognizable due to gentrification and "progress". I work on the near east side and it was very much a Mexican neighborhood when the company I work for bought a building over here in 2007 (the reason we had to move, of course, because the place we were leasing was being knocked down for a new high rise). The shift was swift and complete. It is a "hip" and "hot" neighborhood now and the businesses/housing pricing are reflecting it big time.

Traffic has become a real pain in the ass too, but that is because the city's population has nearly doubled since 1990 and the infrastructure has not even begun to be able to catch up. The suburbs are beginning to see major population spike now as well so there is some sprawl in that regard.

I don't know...I'm a city guy and I like prefer the urban in many ways, but the major increase in traffic and cost of living are tough to deal with at times. I'm just glad I bought a house in 2001 because I would absolutely bristle at the price of houses in my neighborhood now. And it is considered an affordable family neighborhood.
