Some misfortunes become the windfall for others. A lot of us are enjoying the lower gasoline prices but I am sorry your situation is somewhat threatened.

Well, the good news is that I've got a lot under my belt and already have some things lined up so we'll see how that goes.

I don't think it'll take me long to find something else, but then again you never know. What I do know is that I need to get off the ship before it sinks.

We just cut all IT contractors and all the IT projects here at the company I work for. We've been put on notice that layoffs are a possibility if things don't improve significantly soon.

Damn.

Tell me about it. We aren't to that point yet, but it is coming if the price drops much more. Luckily we keep a few contractors around for such an occasion, but that won't stop the bleeding for long

I'm normally a morning pooper. Have been for years. Here lately I've noticed that I've had a night poop as well. Today I've pooped this morning and I am currently pooping as I type this. Now I am curious if I am going to poop again tonight.

That wouldn't be a problem but I really like to shower after pooping. It is not a requirement or anything, more like a strong desire.

Anyway, cheers to multiple poop days = MPD.

I usually poop twice a day. Sometimes I go through streaks where I don't and it really disturbs me.

I read an article a couple of weeks ago about a lot of North Dakota workers being laid off due to the decrease in oil prices.

Admittedly I'm a novice and know very little about the oil industry, but I just don't understand why the decreased oil prices are causing people to lose their jobs. Especially since one of the reasons that I've seen for the price decrease is that America has become the world's largest oil producer. Shouldn't that equate to more jobs in the American oil industry?

As an aside, I do appreciate the lower oil prices.

Big oil companies have been taking advantage of us for a decade and a half, so it's nice to see some reasonable prices for a change.

Sucks that people are losing their jobs as a result of it but that seems to be the typical seesaw effect of the economy. When something is great for one side, it typically sucks for the other side.

I just don't understand why the decreased oil prices are causing people to lose their jobs.

Simple. It costs a lot of money to drill and produce wells. If the cost overrides what they're making from selling the oil, they'll shut wells in and stop drilling wells. No different than any other industry. If profit doesn't equal or exceed cost, work stops.

Especially since one of the reasons that I've seen for the price decrease is that America has become the world's largest oil producer. Shouldn't that equate to more jobs in the American oil industry?

Not true. If anything, the price would stabilize if we were 100% reliant on our own oil. The drastic price swings are mainly due to OPEC and who they deal with. As we gradually wean ourselves away from being the primary consumer of foreign oil, the domestic price of oil should stabilize. But you'll never see us completely independent of foreign oil.

And there has been a very large increase in oil related jobs over the last ten years. But we're now seeing layoffs because of the drop in the price per bbl of oil, as I stated above.
