I never really thought they were high energy, but I also have a Yorkie so that's what I compare it too.
My main concern for the Weimaraner pick is whether he would be allowed to have it. It's a royal hunting dog. It may be a bit too classy for Nebraska.
The thing with hunting dogs, if you have room outside for them to run a bit, they are perfectly fine in the house. But they will get bored and start destructive behavior (digging/chewing) if not allowed enough exercise. I've never owned a Weimaraner myself, but have known people that did. And they are great dogs. Well behaved and calm. But again, the guys that owned them had experience training dogs.
It's only my belief, but I'll only own hunting breeds. If I'm going to put in the time and energy to train them, I want something in return. Besides just companionship. I've had Springer Spaniels since I was a kid, so I'm partial to them. But pretty much all hunting breeds I've been around are extremely smart and easy to manage.
The only dog I've had over the last 30 years that wasn't a hunting breed was my Great Dane, Zeke. But he was my wife's dog. And I'll admit, he was a great dog.
