Plus, just say no to beagles. They bowl non-stop.
 
My son has allergies...so I have to consider that too.

Great dogs. Definitely mid-sized. Average males are usually between 40–45 lbs. Mild/happy temperament, smart, great with kids, etc. They do shed though, so it sounds like that is a drawback for you.

But they are kind of high energy, being a hunting breed. And it doesn't look like he wants that.

Sounds like Carp can't decide on a single dog because he is too fucking picky.
 
One thing I learned: shock collars are amazing. We trained dog from running away and walking without a leash in one frickin day. One.

This was after 1.5 years of dealing with a dog that would bolt and terrorize the neighborhood.

I am amazed.

They are after they reach the age of 18 months. When they are younger they are one of the most destructive dogs going. I have seen them tear up things I would not have believed. My daughter had one that literally chewed the siding off their exterior walls. As to training , they spent a fortune on it before they gave up and found the dog another home. Labs are lovable but destructive when young. Just be prepared for a lot of frustration for a while.

I never really thought they were high energy, but I also have a Yorkie so that's what I compare it too. :lol

My main concern for the Weimaraner pick is whether he would be allowed to have it. It's a royal hunting dog. It may be a bit too classy for Nebraska.

Sounds like that mutt from the movie/book "Marley & Me".

I'd have beat the brakes off that dog.

Fortunately I've been lucky with all of my dogs. I've had a German Shepard, Chow, Golden Retriever, now we currently have a Bichon Frise.

If they could have found the brakes they probably would have. The mutt likely ate the brakes.
