Well it's a 1999 Ford Explorer with 160,000 miles. I walk to work every day so I don't use it for commuting, but maybe once a week or once every two weeks I have to drive an hour or so for court in a different county.
It's main use is running errands around town and occasional road trips to Baltimore, Pittsburgh, etc, to see friends. So I only put like maybe 10k miles on it a year.
I feel like I can get away with cheap tires, so much so that given the age of the car, the past couple years I've been buying used tires. However, every single year when I go in for an inspection they tell me that 2-3 of my tires fail inspection, which then I inevitably replace them with more used tires that will fail again next year.
Since it doesn't seem like I have a major raise coming at my job, and the prospects of finding a new, higher paying job are hit or miss, I can't necessarily count on being able to afford a new car any time soon so I may be stuck with this one for a couple more years. If that's the case, I'm kinda tired of failing inspection for bald tires every year and maybe I should just go ahead and buy three (cheap) new ones (and get the 4th free).
