Spring League Thread...

I don't know what the deal is with the USFL and their empty stadiums. Every USFL game I've tuned into has maybe 150 fans at best at the games. And I'm welling to bet that most of that 150 number are friends, family, and spillover from the team's staff.

They can't even brush it off as fans not caring much about non-NFL football leagues because based on what I've seen with XFL games, there's clearly fan interest for spring football. XFL games have thousands of energetic fans packing their stadiums.

I caught some of the replay between the Houston Gamblers and Memphis and I saw that old Steelers safety Carnell Lake was a coach on the Memphis side.

After the Super Bowl, I'm done with football, especially an inferior brand.

USFL games are all played in Birmingham. They are relying on TV money to get them through their first few years I guess, so any fans that show up are gravy.

Interesting.....did not know that.

Actually they're not all in Birmingham anymore. They've branched out a little and now play all of their games in 4 cities.

Birmingham is still one of the cities. They also play in Memphis, Detroit, and Canton, OH.

Yeah, both leagues have some very recognizable names in their coaching ranks.

I was surprised to see Reggie Barlow coaching in the XFL. That was a name I hadn't heard in a long time.

I honestly didn't know arena football was still a thing. You used to hear about it all the time and even see it on the major networks.
I think it died and is now attempting a comeback.

Suprised they didn't try to play here in Houston.....maybe because the schedule didn't work out with the XFL team?

If anything, I would think the Gamblers would have more appeal here since they actually have some history as pre-existing USFL franchise that was actually pretty good.

Yeah, I'd have opted for a Texas city over Detroit. Fans in the south are a lot more fanatical about football than fans in other regions of the country

Oh ok... all the games I've seen so far this season were played at the same Birmingham stadium so I assumed they were doing the same thing they did last year. The XFL product is still more of a gimmick to me, maybe because of their association with McMahon.

Speaking of which... has anyone seen a recent picture of that man?

Looks like he's channeling his inner John Waters

Especially since the Houston Gamblers actually have a history so that alone I think would have generated some intrigue here.
