Random Politics Stuff Thread...

I remember that I believed there had to be something to the Russia stuff, too. I thought even if it wasn't as bad as they made it out to be, that he probably did some things wrong, even if only because he made mistakes not being a career politician.

It wasn't until I started following politics more closely that I realized it was all complete bullshit to stop his agenda.

I hope, and think, that 2020 woke a lot of people like me up and people who never got into the weeds before now understand what's happening.
They better get to understanding. We are almost to the point of no return and the only alternative would be very nasty.

True and Trump certainly doesn't do himself any favors. I'm just saying the notion that if we just get Trump out of the way Democrats will stop being divisive is false.

But I'm not claiming that Democrats will stop being divisive, I'm claiming that the divisiveness is more negative than positive for Republicans at this point, in regards to Trump.

Don't forget Nevada, either, with the endless drop box vote and remains of Harry Reid's machine still there.

Laxalt has a huge lead but I'll be surprised if he ends up winning.

Shocking headline today: Laxalt's lead "shrinking."

This "fraudulent election" talk didn't start on a macro level until Trump, and don't even mention Russia or whatever else in 2016, that was completely different.

Clinton conceded pretty much immediately and there was no talk of fraud in the voting process itself, the Russia stuff could be argued to be peripherally related but is obviously completely different and was months/years down the line. It didn't cast doubt on the mechanics of the election process itself.

Even in 2000 Gore stepped aside after everything made its way through the courts, the vociferous "fake election/fraud" stuff is really only coming from a subset of one party as far as I can tell, and obviously only when it looks like they're going to lose.

No.

The quest to paint Donald Trump's 2016 election win, which was on every level completely legitimate, as fraudulent or somehow ill gotten, started from Day 1 and pervaded every level, arm, and branch of the Washington establishment, particularly on the left.

The left didn't claim that there were dead people voting maybe, they claimed every other bit of fraud though.

There's a huge difference between saying Russia conducted a campaign to help Trump get elected, potentially with the Trump campaign knowing/encouraging it, and saying that states/counties across the country (but primarily in swing states of course) are straight up faking votes, throwing out votes, etc.

Yeah, but that's not all that was said, only the final thing that was said, after everything else was trotted out there and debunked or didn't get enough traction.

I don't care much one way or another about a national holiday, honestly ,but I'd be fine with that if they did it.

I would take that over these unsupervised mass mailouts with no ID required any day.

But to something you said... Every state could clean things up if they wanted to. These states aren't disasters by happenstance. It's not rocket science. They're this way because they want them this way.

Florida cleaned up their system after 2000 and now they are a model.

Good god, everyone in this country should be embarrassed by this shit.
Pennsylvania just elected a dead man to office. Not Fetterman, a literal dead man.

There is no shame.

This is exactly right.

W was Trump before Trump (yes to a lesser degree but the point remains). They've demonized and vilified Cruz, Rubio, Christie, Abbott, Lake, Romney (until they needed him), McCain (until they needed him), Pence, Guiliani, Palin, Condaleeza Rice, the list can go on and on. Like not just criticized or disagreed with, but literally demonized.

DeSantis will be next (it's already started). No chance it stops with Trump. That's what they want you to think.

Yes, they're going to demonize whatever Republican who begins to rise but with Trump, it's always at 10. I don't believe that any of the other Republicans have been as polarizing. They had to go harder after him because he was the usurper, the outsider who dared to win against career politicians. They won't be having anymore of that shit. He had enemies on both sides of the aisle.

Oh yeah, there are tons of Republicans that fucking hate his ass. I have never seen anything like it.

Look at McConnell pouring money into helping Murkowski defeat a fellow Republican while giving nothing to Blake Masters in AZ.

That could cost them the Senate.

He'd literally rather be the minority leader than have any MAGA opposition in his own party. Disgusting.

“I don’t like to brag about the expensive places I’ve been, but night before last I went to the grocery store. Inflation is gutting the American people like a fish.”

-Senator John Neely Kennedy of Louisiana

Solid gold that guy is.

Yeah, the Senate was always a long shot. Not taking the House would be an absolute catastrophe.
