NBA Chatter Thread

Your argument was valid a decade ago. The league has been ruled by Lebron, Wade, Pierce...Duncan is a dying breed. It absolutely is ruled by swing men...more 1-3s.

If you want to argue that finding a big man like that is more difficult than finding an elite wing then I agree but if you're arguing that the game has changed to the point where a guy like prime Duncan or Olajuwon wouldn't dominate and be arguably the best player in the league, then you're 100% wrong.

You are basing your argument on big men that no longer exist.

Wasn't that long ago that Howard was dominating the east on the way to the finals. To get smashed but still.

Garnett won a title when he became a complimentary piece...and Davis could be good. So yeah...like I said, the swing position is what you win with in the league.now.

18ppg, 9rpg and DPOY is more than a complimentary piece.

Oh...the year that Kobe was the MVP?
Kobe was the best player in the league for a while so him getting an MVP isn't surprising. But what does that have to do with Garnett being a "complimentary piece"?

When Garnett was MVP he did not win the title...Kobe did, because he is a guy who can carry a franchise. I'm not discounting Garnett, but with the style of play in the NBA now wings are more important. Even the best center to in the league now is second fiddle to Harden. Just the way the game is.

:lol

You can't be seriously using Garnett's Minnesota's teams against him, are you? Outside of a brief time with a head case like Marbury, what was he ever given to win with?

As for. Howard, he just has a personality defect. If he wasn't such a baby and worked on his post moves, he'd be unstoppable and second fiddle to nobody.

Look at the league right now...tell me where all these dominant big men are. I mean Simp said I was wrong about it, but I don't see anym centers leading franchises to titles right now.

It's cyclical. There are times when wings dominate and other times when guards and then big men. Centers dominated the 70's, Forwards the 80's, guards early 90's and them big men til Kobe and then Lebron took over.

I think what we're seeing is big men not getting the development they need in college like they used to get. Everyone is coming into the league more raw but wings and guards can adapt faster. Duncan is the last great big man and he stayed all 4 years at Wake.

Looks at the rules...no hand checking sets it up perfect for wing guys who can get their own shot off the dribble. I was a big proponent of having a big man...you don't need a big time C to win anymore. You do have to have big time wings.

If it is cyclical...then I am right now. When Cs rule the NBA, then I'll be wrong.

I quite clearly said that it's easier to find elite wings than bigs but that you're wrong if you think a guy like Duncan and Olajuwon wouldn't absolutely dominate right now and be arguably the best player in the league. I don't know if you're intentionally being dense or if this just isn't clicking for you but it seems very clear to me.

Still falling back on the C that does not exists right now...fictional characters are always the best argument.

This doesn't make any sense, the root of this goes back to me saying Embiid could be the best center in the league, better than Howard, so presumably he could be a great center along those lines. You're acting like nobody will ever come along like that again which is obviously nonsense, and you're implying that the nature of the game has changed at its core and that a big man like that can't dominate again.

Oh, and Tim Duncan eating the Heat for breakfast, lunch and dinner and being one all-time 30 second choke away from winning it all at the age of 35 seems pretty fictional to me.

The Heat won the title...when one of their wing guys knocked down a.big shot to propel them. Olajuwon was great, probably the best player...after Jordan left.

So Jason Kidd is getting fined 50,000 for concocting this idea to gain a timeout to draw up a play when the Nets didn't have anymore timeouts.

He intentionally spilled a cup of soda to gain the timeout. :lol

I don't think he's gonna work out as a coach.

That glimpse of hope from the Mavs was just that - a glimpse.

They've now lost 4 of their last 5 and look like a team that will be fighting for the 8th seed just as I thought before the season began. :sad
