NBA Chatter Thread

I love Embiid's talent, I love his trolling, but I think I love his attitude the most.

Put up 41/13 and 39/17 in back to back games.

In the 39 point game he scored 32 in the first half.

Post game interview (paraphrasing): "Are we seeing you at your best right now?"

Embiid (paraphrasing): "Nah I have a lot more work to do. I sucked in the second half."

Really fortunate that the Bulls had this rash of injuries and that the organization is being "extra cautious" bringing them back. Lavine/Markkanen/Carter is a really nice young core but if you can add a top 5 pick (Barrett/Reddish/Little) to that you have the makings of an ECF competitor.

And as expected, Carter looks amazing, I wouldn't trade him for any of the bigs taken before him at this point except maybe JJJ, and that's a toss up.

Carter does look way better than expected -- and no shock that he looks better than Bagley, who it was also relatively obvious he relied on being bigger and jumping higher than everyone in college and so he wouldn't be an instant smash success in the NBA -- but I dunno, I can't say I'd take Carter over Ayton.

And Bamba is super raw, can't make that judgment yet. You still might be getting an 18-12 DPOY player there.

Yea at the end of the day we're talking about a 10 game sample of rookies so everything is speculative. You know I've been extremely high on Carter for a while though so what I've seen so far is basically just validation of how highly I already thought of him.

Ayton might be the guy to gamble on just because of how high his ceiling is but ultimately I think Carter will end up being roughly the same caliber of player, if not better, while also being an immensely better fit with Markkanen.
 
Bulls have to, as they were doing last year, simply tank away for just a little longer.

Getting a top 5 pick and they will be in great shape.

Dunn-Lavine-Little/Reddish/Barrett-Markkanen-Carter

And they might could sign Kemba Walker in FA.

Yea, I think it's going to be tough since they're already competitive without Markkanen/Dunn/Portis/Valentine but hopefully they can finish with a bottom 5 record which would give them somewhere around a 50% chance at a top 4 pick.

Add a PG like Rubio, Rozier or even Walker (long shot) and that's a top 3-4 team in the East by the 2020-21 season, assuming Leonard heads back West.
 
I don't know how sustainable it is, but the revival of Derrick Rose has been a nice surprise this season.

His jump shot is much improved. He still has a decent amount of lift to make acrobatic plays from time to time. And he's still a fearless competitor.
 
Jimmy Butler to the Sixers for Covington, Saric, Bayless, and a meaningless 2nd round pick in 2022.

I think Minnesota could have done a little better than that in a trade, but I guess they were tired of dragging this thing out.
 
The Heat offer was better, IMO.

Hmmm... I don't like losing Saric. He's not spectacular, but he's a steady, unselfish player. Also, losing Covington's defense and 3 point shot will suck, but I guess I'm willing to trade that for somebody of Butler's talent. It will be interesting to see how he meshes with Embiid and Simmons. If Markelle Fultz can ever figure things out and become more consistent, the Sixers could really have something.
 
I never would have thought Covington and Saric would have been enough to get a player of Butler's caliber. I'm pretty surprised that there seems to be a bunch of people who think Minnesota got the best of this deal. My first thought is that Minnesota got fleeced. And I don't even think I love this deal for the Sixers.
 
Reports are circulating that the Rockets will be releasing Melo pretty soon.

Rockets fans, please tell me more how he'll be a better fit in Houston than he was in OKC. :lol

I don't know where this dude goes next. He's a bright lights who loves the big city so I'm assuming he tries to catch on with one of the LA teams or possibly Miami. If he just wants to start and/or receive consistent "starter's" minutes, Chicago could be an option.

It really is weird to see this guy be so stubborn about his career at this point in time.

Even if he initially believed last season that he was better than people thought, shouldn't reality hit you when you look on the stat sheet and see how you are hitting career lows across the board for the second straight season?

I know that athletes are typically the last ones to realize that they don't have it anymore, but even Dwyane Wade was willing to accept that he was getting older and began the transition mentally from being an All-Star caliber starter to an off the bench spark type player.

Carmelo Anthony, on the other hand, seems completely oblivious to the fact that he is a declining player and doesn't appear to be willing to give up any ground whatsoever or accept a lesser role.....to the point that he could find himself out of the NBA altogether.

I don't recall ever seeing anything quite like this before.

Yes, there are guys who hang around forever because they refused to give it up, but they are also willing to accept lesser roles and just be on a roster somehow.

This guy really thinks that he is a elite scorer still and should be playing 35 to 40 minutes a night and nothing less.

Melo's problem is that as his game has deteriorated he refuses to adjust and help in other areas. You see it all the time with a lot of other former All-Stars like Grant Hill and Vince Carter. They'll accept roles such as defensive specialist and start doing some of the other "dirty work". Melo won't do that. If his shots not falling he's absolutley worthless.

Someone pointed out today that so far this year Melo has more missed shots than he has assists, rebounds, blocks, and steals COMBINED.

He only has 5 assists on the year. :lol

Melo simply isn't a good player anymore. He's limited on offense and his defense is horrific. Plus I still don't think his attitude is good for a team.

The weird thing about Melo is how he has this army of fans and media types who talk about him like he's still a superstar. I'm not sure I've ever seen anything like it.

I'd rather have Covington/Saric unless that future 1 was looking like a probable top 10 pick from the Suns or something.

IDK. I like Josh Richardson better than Covington and Saric. But good point about the first round pick. Miami's a borderline playoff team so that pick will probably land somewhere in the teens.

I could see Richardson over either Saric or Covington but both?

All three are similar caliber of player to me, guys who aren't stars but are very good, perhaps elite complementary players. In that case I'd rather have 2 of those instead of 1.
