Luka was obviously a dumb trade at the time but so many people underestimated how poorly the Mavs front office mismanaged the Brunson situation.

He should've never been allowed to leave Dallas given what he'd just proven two months prior during the 2022 postseason. He carried them in the 1st round that year while Luka was out with one of his many injuries. Brunson clearly had proven himself to be a worthy 1A or at the very least, a high level 2 option.

Didn't they trade Brunson because they didn't think his play style fit with Doncic?

No he left as an unrestricted free agent.

He initially wanted to sign an extension with them for something in the range of 4 years $50M but the Mavs said no thanks. The following summer the Knicks offered him a larger contract so he signed with them.

Oh that's right.

@Simpleton your Bulls are getting Thiago Splitter. Thoughts?

I thought he did a good job in Portland given the cloud hanging over their heads after the Chauncy Billups arrest, while also having to deal with that new cheap owner.

Added bonus the Bulls cleaned house this offseason so he should hopefully be dealt a better hand to work with than the one Billy Donovan was provided.

No real opinion, it's hard to have strong opinions on newish NBA HC's unlike the NFL where it's kind of obvious if an OC or DC has a strong track record of success or not.

He seemed to do well enough in a tough situation in Portland so there's reason for optimism, but it's mostly a crapshoot with these NBA coaches.

He sounds like a Boxer in a Rocky movie.

IIRC, Skip used to be a die hard Spurs fan.

At least he pretended to be on his ESPN & FS1 shows.
He's basically a two-sport guy (football and basketball). I don't think he ever recovered when fans exposed him as a bench warmer on his HS bball team.
