NBA Chatter Thread

Considering the NBA subsidizes their pointless league and is the only reason it hasn't folded, simply as a pure PR/marketing play to curry favor with certain...types, I don't think "being paid what they're owed" would work out how they think it would.

How can you demand more money when your league constantly needs the help of the NBA just to keep it afloat?

If not for the NBA, most of those teams would have gone under years ago.

I mean I don't really care. Feel free to ask for more money. Maybe that leads to the entire league going belly up, if so oh well. Or maybe they need to change their business model so that they aren't playing in mostly empty arenas. There are fixed costs to leagues like this. And simply giving a higher percentage of revenue to the players means that the league can't cover their fixed costs. Hell they already can't cover their fixed costs. So something has to give. Maybe stop with charter flights, put these ladies on buses. Maybe don't play in the expensive arena's or lease expensive practice facilities.

I won't pretend to understand their books. But I'm not sure how in 2024 their revenue doubled but they lost like 50 mil. Maybe they are wasting too much money on advertising.

Anyway, I don't ultimately really care. The WNBA needs to figure out their business model because it really sounds more like a money pit than a league that needs to be paying players more. Paying players more won't improve their bottom line.

Unless their business model includes being able to miraculously play like male athletes overnight, there's nothing they can do to draw interest.

Not even women like watching women's sports, so they don't exactly have a lot of hope.

Other than tennis and MMA, I can't think of any other women's sports that I enjoy watching -- they're all just so bad due to the huge drop off in athleticism.
 
Actually, women's track and field is good too, but just like with the men, you just don't care about it until it's Olympic time.

Doesn't one of them do OF? So I just want to point out that the Lingerie Football League turns a profit while the WNBA does not. Maybe there is a business model that works...

Seriously though, people aren't going to watch the WNBA because of the amazing talent. But then again we watch college sports and the talent isn't as good as the professional level. Hell to some extent I enjoy college football more than the NFL. The Savanah Bannanas are going all over the place and selling out MLB stadiums and I'm sure turning a big profit. In the end it's not just about talent, it's about entertainment. And the WNBA doesn't have enough entertainment value. Clark has definitely given them a significant bump recently but no one even talked about the league before she got there.
