And there is a race component. I've seen the suggestions that the popularity is because she is white. I've seen the narrative that Angel is somehow on an even playing field (she isn't).
Absolutely race is playing a part.
Let's be honest, part of the popularity is because she's white but that door swings both ways. When the Williams sisters first appeared on the international stage, a lot of attention and coverage was paid to them because they were two black girls from Compton playing in a primarily white sport.
But over time, they just started getting coverage for how amazing they were at tennis and this was especially true for Serena.
I believe the same thing is happening and will happen with Clark. Right now part of the attention is because she's a white hooper, but over time, it'll just be because of how great she is at basketball.
And yes, Angel Reese is so fucking annoying. She's petty and spiteful and she just oozes jealousy every time you see her talk.
From what I understand, she's very talented herself and is having a good season as well. But the league isn't getting coverage because of you and the stands are filling up because of you. At the end of the day, no one wants to go watch a player rebound the ball. We want to watch those athletes do those things that we all wished we could do, and that's what Caitlin Clark does.
She's basically becoming the female equivalent of Steph Curry and that's why what she's doing is such a big deal.
